• PRS or POS?

What do you guys think of these axes? I've never thouroughly tried one out so I can't judge, and I KNOW they are definitely NOT worth the crazy prices they go for...but are they actually decent guitars? How much would you willingly pay for one and not feel scammed? I'm not interested in one, simply curious...so many of my friends seem attracted to POS',.. uh, PRS'

I like em a whole bunch, but I can't stomach the price tags either.

They are worth every penny.A little too conservative and too rich for my blood.

They are outstanding guitars. They are expensive, but in the same range as Anderson, Parker, Gibson, Baker, Suhr, Gretsch (less in many cases)so price wise they don't really stand out to me. You can get a CE series for $2500 canadian, and they are every bit as good as the Custom series, which start at $2900. They really hold their value though, and command good prices used, so they aren't a bad investment. Materials used, build quality, playability etc. they completely live up to their reputation. Their pickup voicing and string definition is about as good as it gets. I have one and I couldn't be happier with it, and I'm looking at another one. Italamelodie had a friggin' majestic Custom 22 the last time I was in. It was emerald green with a 10 top quilt and a wide thin neck. Try that one for a few minutes if it's still there, I think you'll be blown away.

I like them, but wont buy one until they make a nice shredder version thats neckthru, has a Kahler Pro, and EMGs......Until then, I'll stick to Washburn, Charvel/Jackson, Guild, Ibanez, etc.......

I love em, but I don't play or buy em. They cost too much for me to afford, and they're not really my style of guitar anyway.

They are extremely high quality axes, but I can not get with the tone. Not the pickups, but even the acoustic tone of the gutiar. I'll stickwith my Jackons, and McInturffs.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">So... what you're saying is... you're never buying one.

I've only played a couple of PRS's but they both had the same problem. They had the weight of my Iceman compacted into an LP Junior size body. That's about 14 pounds for those of you keeping score at home. They may have been freaks though.

I know a lot of these gnu-metallers (as newc calls em ) use PRS' a lot, but are they made for rock, metal or even shredding? Or are they targetting more jazzy, clean playing?

Hey Mark, which ital are you talking about? I seem to recall seeing something similar (or identical, didn't pay too much attention) at the one here in Montreal.

Re: PRS or POS?

PRS makes a VERY nice guitar...my only thing against them is the price tag.
Up untill 95, they were worth that price, as they were all about 100% handmade. They got into CNC machines, etc around then, and the prices they are charging now are a little high.

I had a 1988 Custom 24"special" BTW...bought it sight unseen in the late 90s for $900..sold it for $1800 a year or so ago. I could have kept it, as it was one of the early PRSs made, but I am a player, not a collector.
USed part of that money to buy a USA Kelly, and I have never regretted it!

Re: PRS or POS?

My PRS Custom 24 was the best 6 String guitar I'd ever played... IT fit me like a glove. I'd still have it today if I play on 6-strings at all.

Ya, those older ones were really sweet, to me they were the real PRS. No Heel From Hell and handmade Jack.

The Montreal store. I was last there about 4-5 weeks ago, and I don't think it had been there long.Same guitar you saw probably if time frame matches. They are suitable for any style of playing I would say. If you have to have a flat fretboerd to feel comfortable, they may not be the thing, but they play like buttah, either way.

I was also curious about the intonation, but the bridges are preintonated and will work for any string gauge. I've had 9's, 10's, 10-52's, and 11's, and they all intonate perfectly. I don't know how exactly that works out, but it does. Great guitars. For me, it's worth the price tag.

if I were you go for the Hamer Studio Custom or Monaco Elite, I think they are a better guitar for the money, Hamer`s do have a Chunky Neck though, I like them Jack.
