• Schecter Strat Head...

Can anyone tell me anything about these? I just picked one up and it's very clean. White, black pick guard, white headstock, Schecter bridge.

I like it a lot but I don't know anything about them, when was it made, etc...if you can tell me anything I would appreciate it...

txcharvel,

I can tell you something about Schecters and maybe even something about that guitar.

If you bought it from Dallas Guitar Center you paid too much

The guitars with the G in the serial # are usually from the mid eighties.

In Hurst ,TX at Player's Music Kerry the guitar tech was one the head guys at Schecter when they were here in Dallas. He also scalloped the test guitars that went to Yngwie.

Schecter is where Tom Anderson honed his skills before making His name.

Pawn shops here in TX are full of crappy Mexicaneese " Hollywood's that are hilarious!
The world's worst silkscreen logo job hands down.

Thank God you could never afford them because some new-hire broker put way too much in em.
The textbook "canoe paddle for a grand" scam.

The Forum has a few Schecter owners. I just have one neck, a old 21 fret nitro finished reverse Strathead deep V one of my favs.

I personaly call them the "singing frog brand"

alot of times, a painted headstock on a Schecter means is might be a Strategy model. The serial # is stamped on the neckplate if it is a TX made mid 80's model and yes it will start with a G. I had an 86 Yngwie Schecter and a regular 86 model. Both were excellent. Pickups on the USA TX models were usually Monstertone's and had huge poles like the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder. Also, a pull pot for a coil tap was popular on the tone control.

Yes, it is a Strategy Model, does that mean anything? I picked it up very, very cheap at a pawn shop in Houston. I figured the hardware alone was worth what I paid for it.

I cleaned it last night and the thing is great shape. Thew white paint has age into that cream color that looks really good. When I took the pick guard off and saw the original white, it was a big difference.

So now, can anyone tell me about the Strategy Models?

How good are the old Schecter stratheads?

In '85 I was gonna buy either the black rosewood board single hum vintage trem (San Dimas) Charvel -OR- the white with a black pickguard matching headstock Schecter right next to it on the guitar rack at Bonne Music on Erie Blvd in Syracuse. I played the two of them back and forth for a week before buying the Charvel and, of course, ordering a Floyd while I was at it!

But that Scecter...man, I would love to pick one up sometime.

I've always wanted the Schecter Pete Townshend Tele - the one he used on Eminence Front.
Love that tone - fat AND twangy

They were just as good as Charvel at the time but a little more expensive and almost always had to be ordered. I ordered mine in 1986. It was a red and white striped body ala EVH with a maple board and strathead. The strat style input jack had a preamp built into it.I had it loaded with stacked humbuckers and a vintage trem. The Strategy models have nice hardware and are great bang for little bucks. The last one that I bought on Ebay was $175.00 and was in mint condition. Strategy is a production model that Schecter used to make to compete with the Jacksons/Charvels and Kramers of the time. Another great strat is the early Fernandez strats that were made in CA and the early Tokai strats.

Newc,
I used to have a Schecter Pete Townshend Tele. I kick mysel every day for getting rid of it. I used to have a hot pink Dean Z signature and it got stolen. I really liked the Dean. I saw another one in a store and traded the Schecter for it. What a mistake! Not only is the Schecter a better guitar, the price on that Dean model dropped almost $300 about 2 months later. This was around 1986.

The only bad thing that I can say about Schecter is the fine tuning Tremolo bride that they developed.

It has the fine tuners, long bar rail pivot point, fine tuners, but no real trem block!

That made such a innovative design wasted. No sustain, no mass, just a huge hole cut out of the tremolo block. This bridge installed takes a huge chunk of wood right out of a highly critical area the guitar and the hole is too big to cover with a stock Strat trem bridge.

In Denton TX, there was a Purple/ Ash body Schecter strat with a Walnut reverse headstock tele neck, WILD.

Everything is trashed on the body, that's cool ,I love old whipped guitars. But that fine tuning bridge is a turd in the punchbowl.

Re: Schecter Strat Head...

I'm psyched to see this topic...I picked up a strat head Schecter a couple months ago for less than $200 and I've been trying to find out info about it ever since.

Mine is black, with a three ply black pickguard. matching headstock color, S-S-H with coil tap, Schecter trem, 5 way switch, maple neck, ebony board, black hardware, yada yada yada. Feels awesome.

My Serial number on the plate starts with an A. A8118.

I've seen similar models getting $500plus on ebay. Based on everything I've read here, they're pretty sweet. Is there any online resource I can use to find out more info or date this thing?

By the way, Chuckracer -- didn't know you were from the Cuse. Haven't heard the name Bonne Music in years!

Small world, brutha. I live in Bville right now. You wouldn't recognize the town since you left it -- lots of development on the river front, lots of cool bars/restaurants by the lock, big houses going up everywhere. (The house across the street from me backs up to the river and is selling for $499,900.)

If you ever come back, I'd have no problem switching to bass in my band...AND I'd let you play my Schecter!

Well, as luck-or fate-would have it, I will be back there for the better part of a month from mid August till mid September.

I'll be hanging at my folks place in Croghan, but I'll have wheels and I'm bringing my GMW Jake.

Mayhaps we should hook up? Maybe reign some terror on Matt?

I pretty much grew up in Bville, did the Elden/Durgee/Baker High School educational loop. Lived in Indian Springs on Mott road. House number was 58, but since changed to the fire district number and I don't know what that would be. Next to the last house on the right on Mott.

This could be very cool!
