Re: Won a Dean ML XT Phantom off of the bay...
Yeah! I saw that house in the reflection. EVILLL! I was combing my brain to try and figure out what the reflection reminded me of. You nailed it dude. Amity Ville Horror! I have had access to a Dean or 2 over the years. My next door neighbor had an actual 79 ML in cherry burst. It had gold hardware and binding galore. It had a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and the origional neck pickup. He would let me jam on it. As I got older I grew to appreciate it for what it was. He bought it new in 1979 for around $800 he said. About 12 years ago a friend of mine's dad had an old, unknown year V in blue burst and I played it every time I went over. I guess to me, Dean is like a cult classic guitar. The Rocky Horror Picture Show of guitars. Alot of big names used them and some still do. I have played everything from their Player series which is about as bottom of the line as you can get with Dean to the USA models and European made models. I knew a local dealer. Even the crappiest Dean was a pretty good guitar for the cash and the middle of the road Deans like the ML XT and Z's were well worth the price tag. I've always wanted an ML since I saw Iron Maiden and the Cars playing them back in the good old days. After playing a boat load of them over the years I always said I'd get one. I couldn't beat what I payed for my ML. Musicians Friend wants $429 and that's a discount price. I got it for $199. Even if it sucked it would still be worth it IMHO. They said that it was a clearence item. They had an EVO Phantom as well. If you are looking into buying a Dean I'd say go for it. When I get mine I will play it, abuse it and molest it before I post about it. I have gone off half cocked about new gear before and then posted about how much it ended up sucking. We will see, but I will let you know how it plays for sure.
