  • fixing up old stlye LTD explorer

Ive got a black LTD explorer old body style that a lot of people go nuts over. Im thinking of fixing it up and trying to make some money off of it. Im going to put EMGs in it and locking tuners.
It has a couple knicks in it and doesnt have the original case but it seems to be one of the more desirable explorers since it doesnt have the model name at the 12th fret. I figure if I fix it up and put some good quality stuff on there people will look past a few flaws. The reason I might sell it is to get me a lot closer to a new USA Jackson SL2H. I keep trying to get into other guitars but I always end back up at Jackson. Should I try and fix it up and make some cash off of it?

Well, alot of times the cost of the guitar plus the upgrades are not recovered. Do the math. Add what you paid for it as is, to the cost of the upgrades. If you think someone will give you MORE than that figure, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, try to sell it as is, for at least your original cost.

I have to agree with Scott above. I think you'd do better to sell the parts individually. Hell, shoot me a pic of it, maybe I'll take it off your hands. Tell me what you want for it shipped.

Yeah I just didnt know if I fixed it up right and found the right buyer if I could make a little cash off of it. Its just this dang jacksonitis is killing me. I have this horrible craving for a metallic black SL2H. I think itd sell better with the EMGs. I might just see if I can get a decent price on it the way it is and make a little money off of it and get me a little closer to a USA Jackson.

One of those LTD explorers that he is talking about sold for 900 dollars with EMG's in them. I like my Jackson guitars but I think the ESP or LTD explorers are great guitars and I would never sell mine. I have an ultra rare Black LTD explorer that came stock with EMG's, fixed bridge and setneck. I dont care for bolt ons so if I had a bolt-on LTD explorer I would try to trade it or sell it for a Jackson USA guitar, I am sorry but no bolt-on import can compare to a USA soloist so go for it if you can get the EMG's cheap.

See you understand my pain. If it was set neck Id probably keep it. But I dont eve play it since I have two Jacksons and the only way Id play it is if it had EMGS and locking tuners and all that good stuff. But then Id wonder well if I could sell it for the right price then Id just have to go for a soloist. I have to have a soloist. Ill sell this explorer and find a way. Im just hooked.
Other guitars were cool but if I had the chance Id sell any other guitar to get more Jacksons.
