  • Is GMW Worth it???

Schecter also makes USA 7 strings. There are also some fairly rare super high end Ibanez Prestige 7 stringers floating around, Conklin makes USA 7 string guitars and of course there is Carvin. They will route and install EMG's for you but you have to call. I have never heard of a 7 string Kahler but the Floyd 7's work really good. I think Wilkenson just came out with a 7 string trem. Carvin makes excellent 7 string guitars.
GMW is a fine choice though.

"...but the thing is, should I do it?"

No one can make that decision for you. You have to go with the company you feel most comfortable with that offers you what you need in terms of customer service, quality and value.

"How does payment work and how long may it take up to?"

When you order the guitar, a deposit is placed to get the ball rolling. For what you're looking for, it could take up to year, easily.

Best advice I can offer is what I did. Do as much research on the companies that you are considering as possible. Ask questions of past customers and play some of the companies' guitars if possible. Gather all of your specs before you approach the companies (sounds like you've already done that). Finally, when you're ready, email and/or call the different companies and ask questions. Take notes. Go with your gut instincts.

I have a guitar being built by GMW, so I can share with you my opinions of them. Pros: they are local to me here in So Cal, and I like being able to actually go to the shop and see their work first hand. Lee Garver always answers his email and takes calls from customers (be forewarned, however, not to call in the middle of the day to shoot the breeze about whether or not you should get this option or that...he's very busy and its best to email those types of inquiries. Be brief and to the point). I am very impressed with the quality of what I've seen come from their shop. And you'd be hard pressed to find anyone denigrate the quality of their work.

Cons: Ummmm...they can be slow..? It's a small shop, which I prefer actually to a larger company. Besides that, I haven't experienced anything negative with GMW and don't anticipate any issues. They are an excellent option.

    Good luck!

My experience with GMW was absolutely stellar, and love the guitar they built for me. Thumbs up here.

        Is GMW Worth it???

Ok, I am seriously thinking about getting a GMW Custom done. I love Jackson, ESP, and Gibson. The problem is that each company offers certain features that I can't get from the other. I've heard A LOT of good things about GMW on this site, and I know that they can do ANYTHING that I wish(is this correct?). I also heard that the pricing is very good...but the thing is, should I do it? I want to get a custom made in the USA neck-thru 24 fret 7 string guitar w/ EMG 707's and an OFR(do they make 7 string Kahlers?). I'll figure out body type later, but I am looking for some good advice on this company. How does payment work and how long may it take up to? If anyone can help me out, that would be great. Thanks and take it easy.

a USA made neckthru 7 string from Jackson, BCRich will not be cheap, they are the only USA makers of 7 strings that i know of. GMW is great but will not have the resale value of a jackson or rich. the wait time is probably a while for what you want, since it would be a complete custom. you should try a mockingbird 7 string with tone chamber amaizing guitars & the chamber really helps
