• Gibson Digital/Ethernet Guitar

I scanned this article in the Baltimore Sun:
(kinda big..sorry)

Now, I'm all for technology in music, but when does it stop being music and become just technology?

Re: Gibson Digital/Ethernet Guitar

I see it's potential, but I also see it being misused to the point where there's no individuality anymore. "Hey, Mr. Roadie, stop trying to get a good sound out of my Marshall, just go over to the laptop and punch up the #12 Randy Rhoads tone..." The thing about Neal Schon thinking it was cool to run around with a super-long ethernet cable was downright funny to me. I think I'd better put in a patent for the first ethernet wireless system. Too late dude, wireless Ethernet has been around for years now. What we are talking about now is wireless WAN applications. Imagine being able to download any amp patch or sound without having to plug into anything. You could sit on your back porch and jam with anybody on the planet with nothing but a guitar and a wireless transciever. I imagine it is already being done. Just remember that technology will NEVER replace talent. It just makes it easier for the talent to emerge and be heard.

Great, now we'll have to suffer through AOL commercials showing the average Joe Shmuckatelli playing a Les Paul Custom online with that "You've Got Mail" crap in the middle of it.
"AOL for Guitar is soooooo easy to use, and has hundreds of new features like email - gosh I love email - and instant messaging, buddy lists, even gangbang surfing, where me and all my other loser-geek buddies gang up and go surfing around the internet together like a buncha fukkin idiots piled into a mini-van"

Then there'll be the MSN Butterfly for guitars.
"You know, the internet's a scary place if you're a brain-dead moron, but once I found my Buttfly with MSN, the internet's not so scary for brain-dead morons like myself. There's email, instant messaging, even gangbang surfing, where me and a bunch of my brain-dead moron friends gang up and go surfing around the internet together like a bunch of fukking idiots piled into a mini-van - it's great (toasts a mint julep with his Butterfly)"

Then of course, there'll be the Earthlink ads.
"Tired of overpaying for the same guitarnet? Switch to Earthlink now and pay a hefty $275 cancellation fee if you ever cancel the service. You get instant messaging and email just like the "big guys", for a lot less money. Plus you get our exclusive new "Online Mini-Van" where you and a bunch of your sad-sack no-life dipsh!t morons can cruise the internet like a car full of drunk teenagers! Switch now and start saving less than you actually think you are. Playing guitar online has never been easier, thanks to our spam-generating custom software that automatically adds your name to millions of solicitors - from Aspirin to Ziplock - so you don't have to."

I see bad things happening.

Newc, you are the Speilberg of message boards (or maybe the Andy Rooney) . You really need to start publishing some of your thoughts.
Warped..... but in a complex and interesting way.

The old foogies have to realize that guitar has to evolve. I am hoping they work close with Roland and deliver an uber VG system......That would kick major a$$.........

dude look closer, this technology will replace midi, and is awesome on a whole other level. can do 32 bi-directional tracks of audio over an ethernet cable, among other things.

a billion times faster than midi.. all kinds of applications.
