• ibanez and shred guitarists

I have always wondered, why do so many guitarists (guys like vai and satch and some other shred guitarists) play ibanez guitars? Is it because of the neck width? I swear everytime I watch some guy blazing up and down the fretboard, they are playing an ibanez guitar. Can anyone help me out?

Ibanez offers very lucrative endorsement deals. Ibanez is an extremely profitable company that has extremely deep pockets and ... I know that I am going to get flamed on this one.. they make some very nice high end guitars in their Japanese factory. The Prestige/Jem/Universe and some of the early Sabers are all excellent guitars. Some of their locking trs and pro edge trems are regarded by many to be the best in the industry. WITH THAT SAID!!!! let me say that the list of rippin Jackson shredders either past or present is extremely long. Keep in mind also that Ibanez sponsors many clinics/instructional videos/ and Shredder compilation CD's and it is mandatory for the players to use Ibanez guitars even though they are using Jacksons and other super high end quality custom built guitars in the studio. For example, Reb Beech used to play his Ibanez for 1 song live and that is when the official Ibanez photographer would snap all the live shots.. All the rest he used his John Suhr. It is all marketing bro...

Yep. Ibanez gives head to all the big names like Satch, Vai, etc etc as well as free gear and a percentage of their signature model sales (which is why you see so damn many sig model Ibanezzes).
ESP does the same thing.
Warmoth makes a good guitar also, but you don't see Paul Stanley hawking them in magazines do you? No, you see him extolling the superior craftsmanship of one of the biggest jokes in guitar history - Silvertone.

If Jackson played the same game that ESP and Ibenhad play, you'd see "everyone" playing Jacksons. The main reason those players choose Ibanez over Jackson is because Jackson does not pay to play, and rarely gives freebies.

Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

Frankly speaking, if you're willing to pay the price(about twice or so), i'm pretty sure that both ESP and Ibanez are able to made you "something" that plays and looks as well as a Jackson.

Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

Yes, anytime someone plays something not Jackson it is ONLY because they are paid enormous sums of money by that company.

If Vai didn't like the Jems, if Satch didn't like the S series, they wouldn't play them. The guitars are built to their specs and they're fine with them. Artists are just like everyone else here. Most are total gear wh0res. If the gear was s**t, they wouldn't play it.

This doesn't pertain to Paul Stanley or any of the dudes in Kiss. They'll bend over for anyone with enough money.

Take that as you will.

Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

Frankly as a hardcore Jackson and Carvin fan I must say that Ibanez does have a few outstanding models. That being said I way prefer neck-thru guitars because it feels more solid to me.

As for more shredders playing Ibanez, I never saw it as that. There's a huge chunk playing them but in the spectrum of shred Ibanez is but a blip on the radar, Fender's a way more prominent name (in my eyes at least).

Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

I have heard that Ibanez takes good care of their endorsees, and that is why people like Schofield, Benson, Satch, and Vai have been with them for so long.....Alot of companies build a guitar, hand it to a player, and say, "This is going to be your signature axe." Ibanez actually works with the players to develop their own.......

Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

In a way I have noticed the same thing. Alot of shredders and death metal players were and are using them extensively. I have seen a few Ibanez ads lately featuring guys using RG320's and RG550's. Kirk Hammet, CC De Ville, John Christ (Danzig) and many others could be seen back in the day playing Ibanez RG series guitars. Kirk being an ESP endorser played, drug around and destroyed many RG570's. CC De Ville damn near played RG570's exclusively for a long time. I broke down and bought one as well. Not that I'm a professional guitarist, but the RG370DX caught my eye and I played it several times before I bought it. I like it. It's a very solid axe. It's definately a shredder. Can i compare it to my Jackson or my Charvel.........not realy. Ibanez is a cookie cutter guitar where as a Jackson has a sort of vibe to it and my Charvel Model 2 has a boat load of authentic mojo. Ibanez guitars just have that dime a dozen feel to them. I like mine alot. Hell, if it were all I had I would be happy. If it works for these big shredder guys, well, so be it.
