Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

I was pleasantly surprised by a high-end Ibanez Prestige that I played at a used-guitar store a couple of weeks ago. Don't remember exactly which model it was (a fancified bolt-on RG), but that one had tone to spare and a great neck. Most of the Ibanez I see at Guitar Center play and sound like crapola.

By the way, I would echo what someone said about Ibanez working with their endorsees. You'd have to say that Ibanez went the extra mile with Satch and Vai to create guitars to appeal to them specifically. So much so that I wouldn't actually want either sig model! I liked that Prestige I played way better than the JEMs I've tried in the past, and the JS is too trebly and has 22 frets--not for me.

I think that CC's Ibanez's were the very first JEM's, and he only had a couple of them, at the most. The only one I remember seeing is the desert yellow one , and possibly one shocking pink one? The pink one was probably a BC Rich. They definitely had the monkey grip, if my memory serves. I have never seen or heard of Kirk Hammett playing an Ibanez. If you (or anybody) could post a pic of that, I would love to see it.

      Here's a pic of CC's JEM:

In Metallica's Live Sh*t Binge And Purge Kirk plays an Ibanez on the concert from the Black Album tour. He uses it in his (weak) solo then thrashes it.

He also had an Ibanez neck on a Jackson or Charvel Hot Rod Flames (Hot Wheels) Strat body in "Talk Dirty To Me".

              Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

CC did in fact play what appears to me to be something in the RG570 range. I have a few pics in an old magazine where he's playing a lazer blue (I think) Ibanez RG something. I know it's not a Jem series. I have seen him play the Jem series guitars though, but he did play alot of RG's too. Was CC DeVille an Ibanez endorser? I remember he endorsed CRATE amps back in the good ol' days. I kinda always wondered why. I was told that he had Marshall guts put in CRATE cabs and heads, but promoted CRATE. Thats kinda like Dimebag endorsing Randall and getting caught with Marshall heads in Randall cabs.

CC has been with Randall for a very long time.

Rusty Cooley also play Ibanez. Just for the record, his playing does nothing for me. Even he looks bored in that clip. Technique is one thing, but I think it is more important to play for the song, not just because you can.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I've seen Kirk live use his black Ibanez RG for like one song and then smash it. I think his tech rebuilds it for him so he can smash it again... unless he's got more he just smashes. I also saw a pic of him playing a black Ibanez Iceman (he was wearing a beret in the pic, so it was probably from the Load/Reload tour.
