I've been meaning to check out Shawn Lane for a long time. Can anyone recommend me some of his work?

        Re: ibanez and shred guitarists

Shawn has released a couple of solo albums, as well as a number of collaborations with bassist Jonas Hellborg. Of his solo albums, I highly recommend the newest one The Tri-Tone Fascination. His first solo album, Powers of Ten, has some great stuff, but it's a bit more dated sounding, in my opinion.

Of his stuff with Hellborg, I really like Time Is The Enemy--a live set where Shawn just rips it up. You'll have to pick your jaw up off the floor after listening to that one.

Warning--none of these albums is exactly easy to find.

Why do people play Ibanez's? It's pretty simple: they make some nice guitars. I've got one of the white JEM's and it is a totally sweet guitar.

Ibanez certainly makes some crap. So does Jackson. So does Fender. etc. But for the most part, all of the big boys also make plenty of nice guitars. It just comes down to what feels good in your hands and makes the squeaky noises you like to hear.

I'm not really an Ibanez fan, but...
i walked into a Long & McQuade near my house and noticed they are now selling Jacksons (cool) and they also had that new Korean neck-thru Ibanez flametop thingie (rgt42??). They had a new shipment of Jackson DKMG's (their first Jacksons ever, U.S. expected soon), with nicely flamed tops and EMG's in some of them. For fun I ran the Ibanez and two of the Jacksons through a Boogie Triple Rec. I was kinda surprised in the end, because the DKMG's ($850) were f**king garbage. They were toneless, overly bright fuzzy pieces of sh*t. The Ibanez ($875) definitely played better. It sounded average, but much better than the DKMG's. US Jacksons rule, but I think maybe Ibanez does a better job in the $1000 and under market.

It looks very ugly and uncomfortable and ugly. Strip the body/headstock paint, lose the pink pickups, change inlays and then I'll give it a chance.

I have one of them desert yellow jems and its fn great.

ITs ment to be a shocking col,and the neck is too easy to play on..trem is out of this world

and those pryamid inlays(plastic or whaterver)are the best looking inlays ever

and the monkey handle is great, easy to lug around when gigging, posing on stage.

                    ugly??????no way

I'd have to agree with Justin..it's supposed to be shocking. I'd prefer playing on those inlays over a sharkfin anyday.

CC was always going for semi shock value in color anyways. Wasn't it the MTV music awards he shows up with pink tint hair and he never told the rest of the band. (Based upon as what was stated by Brett as far as I know).

My MIJ Ibanez RG's are usually my main players, they're good playing, solidly built, decent sounding, versatile guitars for same money as most bolt on Jacksons.

I don't deny that any of the Jem or Universe guitars play well, because they all play fuggin great! But that one looks like ass IMO. The jem 10th anniversary, 90th anniversary, 7vwh, 7dbk and a bunch of other ones looks great. The older shocking color 80's models all look like ass to me. Some of the swirled models look pretty good too.

That 7Vwh looks like heaven, and you're obviously proud of it as you should be as I'm sure it's as nice as it's looks.

I'm one of those guys where the looks aren't primary. How it relates to how I play it is my primary goal, that and how it sounds and makes me sound. I'm one of those guys doesn't mind taking a liking to what some think are ugly colors; yellow, orange, lime green, surf green, fushia, teal to varying degrees. As long as it plays great and does what I want..that's the main thing. Worked for Steve Morse,Vai & EVH for a long time. They turned "ugly" (which is relative to an individuals taste) into cool because of what they did with with what they had.
