Great guitars, I had a couple of single hum ones, with the unfinished necks. I believe the pickups were DiMarzio Super 3s (?). The only real downer is the Kahler Spyder trem - works well, but none of the Floyd components fit, do don't lose anything!

I have 2 of the later models w Original Floyds that Jim spoke of. They are neat guitars with some nice parts..... OFR, DiMarzio Super 3 bridge pickup, Gotoh tuning keys. However, they are much like the new Korean Kramers in that they need to be torn apart, messed with and resetup. That part doesn't bother me. The only thing that I really don't like about them is that the Japanese necks have the same soft fretwire that wears easily just like the ESP's. It seems that Charvel/Jackson has the only Japanese guitars with good fretwire.

They are nice guitars. Just make sure you stay away from the ones with the Kahler 2700 Spyder. They are from around 1989. In my experience the trem was a little unstable. The pink one mentioned is really nice.

The Kahler 2700 and the Kahler Spyder are 2 different trems. The HM with Kahlers came with the Spyder......

              Re: Fender Heavy Metal Strat

I have had 3 1989 Carvins and they all had Kahler Spyders on them. In addition they all also said 2700 on them. I did have one that had Spyder 2710 on it a few years ago. They are the single lock trems where the strings feed right through the trem.

The 2710 is the Kahler Killer. The Spyder and 2700 are 2 different trems. The Spyder is a double locking trem.........

Hey Greg, does your HM's have the "Digital logo" or the Graffiti logo? Strat head or pointy? I thought that when they made the Floyd version, that was when the model really came together. I never had a Spyder equipped 'keeper', and I have gone through many.

Both mine are 92 Strathead guitars with the "digital" logos. I'll probably be throwing both up on eBay fairly soon.

I had a late '80s HM and it absolutely rocked. Wish I still had it.

I stand corrected. The trems on all of mine is the 2710 I wasn't sure if it was the 2700 or the 2710. Thanks for the info...
