I don't bash ESP too much, since a lot of artists I like play them. But I don't praise ESP at all. Some of them look cool, thats about it.

        Re: whats wrong with ESP?

I own 2 Jackson USA Soloist's and 3 ESP custom shop signature guitars (George Lynch). The ESP's were about $100 more per guitar then the Jackson's. IMHO the ESP'S smoke the Jackson's...I have'nt barely touched my Soloist's since I bought the ESP's. I even own 2 of the "LYNCH" Skull and Snakes model.....it impressed me that much. My other is a Kamikaze IV. My Jackson's will probably end up on e-bay so I can get a couple more ESP's. I'm sorry but its the honest truth.....nothing against Jackson but this is my opinion. Re: whats wrong with ESP?

How could ESP be crap? Easy one to answer; go check out the plastic devil woman guitar or the ungodly expensive Mustaine model with only three finishes and fuggin dot inlays.

To me, ESP is nothing but a bootlegger. For what they ask for their stuff, I can get a real Jackson, Gibson, or whatever the hell else they're knocking off for usually less money. I don't deny that they make solid guitars, but they're not so special that they make the originals not worth owning.

                    Re: whats wrong with ESP?

In common practice, imports are generally less expensive. But ESP (and Ibanez) guitars aren't.

I'm very interested in the Jeremy Marshall ESP sig model bass, but I can get Jackson to copy it (with some custome mods) for less than the Japanese ESP costs. And that doesn't make any sense.

                      Re: whats wrong with ESP?

I have played some ESP guitars..they are quite nice...but much like PRS ..OVERPRICED.
(NOTE:PRS guitars used to be 100% hand built untill 1995. I had a 1988..the pre 95s are worth the money. The new ones are too expensive for CNC cut guitars.)

For a production ESP sig model, I can get a one of a kind Jackson custom built to MY specs. Yeah, I might have to wait a year-I expect to wait for quality.

I know a few people who like ESP guitars-to each their own.

                        Re: whats wrong with ESP?

Two words will give you a general concensus as to why ESP isn't really a favorite here:

                        Product Loyalty

Personal reasons, for me, is that I'm a huge George Lynch fan. I looked into buying a couple of GL ESPs.. I looked at the Wicked Sensation, and I looked at the Kamikaze I. Both of these guitars retail for over $2,500 (at the time I looked at them), so when I held the Wicked Sensation (actually Skulls and Snakes I believe) I looked at the graphic. Instead of it being a custom paint job, it was an overlay. I could even see the pixels of the picture. Well, for $2500, there was no way I was going to accept that. As I looked at some other guitars, it's my estimation that they are way overpriced for the level of quality in which they are made.

I like Jackson/Charvel's quality and prices... That doesn't mean that they've never made a guitar that's not overpriced, but it just happens on less of a regular basis then I percive ESP's.

                          Re: whats wrong with ESP?

Take a look at ESP's machine-cut "limited edition" version of the J. Frog skull and bones strat that Lynch made popular. That should give a pretty good indicator of how lifeless their quality usually is, and just how low they'll stoop to make a buck.

                            Re: whats wrong with ESP?

I should have let this thread die, but I had to put my two cents worth in. This is a Jackson/Charvel board. Product loyalty and i think a little product jealousy. Jackson/Charvel lost several players to ESP. The guitars themselves are 6 of one half a dozen of the other. I have a Lynch Skulls and Snakes,a Kama I, and several model series Charvels. Both brands play and look great. I believe in the early nineties ESP surpased Jackson/Charvel in style and quality, but then they made the LTD which to me are as crappy as the CX series of Charvels.
