I played a buddy's 7-string Ibanez RG last night. While I am not a big fan of most Ibanez 7-strings, I have to admit, it played pretty well. I think I might look into buying a 7 string. Anyone have good experience with a nice 7-string that may offer some alternatives to the Ibanez (although I won't rule those out completely)?

Re: good 7-string?
RG 7's can be bought for a pretty reasonable price used nowdays, not the cheaper AX,(which is also a good buy) but the RG7420 and 7421.
Ebay Ibanez 7221 cheap
I almost bought an Ibanez (had a downpayment on one @ 479.00 new) but went with the Schecter C7 which I am overall really happy with for 225.00.
The Schecter plays and sounds as good or better than those Ibanez models and it was much less and still came with the floyd. Some of the Schecter stuff on eBay were probably 2nd's that weren't marked as such or a closeout purchase. The materials in the '99 model were better than the 2000 or 2001 from what I recall reading. I think the binding changed to plastic in the later models. I was pretty suprised by the stock Duncan designed pup's too..

Re: good 7-string?
I have a USA Schecter custom 7-string with EMG707s that's a really awesome sounding guitar. I've never played any other 7-strings to know how it compares play-wise, but it's got a really good feel to me. Kinda got it on a whim to try a 7-string, but honestly don't know what the hell to do with the thing hehehe. If you're into gothic looks, and might be interested, email me, and I'd consider maybe selling it.
I'm sure the Carvin 7s are awesome. Carvin quality and feel is always pretty darn close to perfect, in my book.

Re: good 7-string?
The Schecter Diamond Series might be one of the best deals out there, ATM. My C7+ plays wonderfully, and made the transition easy for me.
The body binding is sloppy, and the inlays seem to have been routed by someone with a nervous disorder (lots-o-filler) - but I bought it to play, not display.
Mine is a hardtail, but I've seen Tuna's and Floyd's as well. They start around $200 on Ebay.
Cost me $350 w/o case at the local GC.750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...
Why do I still want MORE?

Re: good 7-string?
Yeah, Carvins are awesome!! I love my Ibanez 7, but I'll eventually have a Carvin 7. I've got two 6-string Carvins and really love them. The two Troy have look amazing!!! I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

It has the ESP stickers and plastic..like it was ready for the ship out.. just no serial.
I would not have worries in performing with this guitar.
I have no doubt Carvin makes some very nice 7's...but I couldn't justify paying that for something I'd dabble in. If it's your main guitar tho..yeah, it's a worthy investment. Whatever feels right. That see thru cherry on the left looks great!

Re: good 7-string?
Thanks TJ.. usually I think of Koa as darker overall, but the headstock shows that..the lacquer seemed to lighten it up alot. (at least I hope it's lacquer, it looks to good to be just oil)
err.. and I meant to say USA stickers, not ESP.
