And a close up of the body, any big ESP fans will notice it is the older ESP explorer body shape with more rounded corners. If you look at the pics of my other ESP guitars you will notice that my other explorers are more pointy.

Yes it is a rosewood fretboard. James Hetfield's original ESP EET FUK explorer was dark rosewood just like this ones.

Re: Just got the ESP EET FUK explorer

I'm curious about a couple things...

James at the time he went with ESP, everything I was reading in magazines, he was saying that he "wanted guitars like his Gibson but with better woods than Gibson was using". I was always confused by exactly what that meant. Isn't it just mahagony/mahagony/rosewood...like Gibsons?

Another thing...hey...where's your "EET FUK" on the guitar??? C'mon...without that, it's just a custom ESP with flippy-bird inlays, ya gotta get that on there! Hehehee...

Cool to see one of these...

Stu if you can find OLDER interviews with James he talks about his gibsons falling apart after years of abuse. this is why he went to ESP & others, Gibsons at that time werent all that great & ESP would make them exactly like his gibsons. as for better woods....its safe to say mahogany from south america is probably alot easier to get stateside than japan & cheaper

Re: Just got the ESP EET FUK explorer

These early ESP explorers had a maple neck. Also I took a piece of paper and wrote EET FUK on it so I will take a picture of it on the guitar but I will not tape anything to it. Also James' stated in the interview that the Gibson explorers he liked were hard to come by and they did get beat up on the road and would have a hard time replacing them. I will get some pics of the Jackson head ESP up shortly for you.

well that makes sense having a maple neck instead of a mah. neck on a touring guitar. it would be alot more stable, & the tone difference LIVE wouldnt be that big. thats the one thing i dont like about mahogany necks they react alot more to changes in temp, humidity, & being knocked around, which happens especially being toured with.

That is rad man...I have this dream to someday get an '85 Gibson Explorer like his (with the Zorlac sticker), just because he was such a big influence on my playing.
