• CRATE guitars? WTF!

Ok, stopped by a pawn shop today in a nearby town just for craps and giggles. I saw a Charvel 550 acoustic which was a little battered, but pretty nice for 160 bucks. Then I saw a Les Paul copy with the CRATE logo on the headstock. I checked it out and it seemed nice, except the headstock/neck joint (like on charvel model guitars) was visible through the paint. Then I saw the price tag....$700!!!!! It was right next to the "made in Korea" sticker. First of all, has anyone ever seen guitars made by Crate? And who on earth would pay 700 bucks for a used Korean Les Paul copy? just ranting....

Those are made by Cort and obviously somebody thought it was a real one or something rare. But sheesh they dodnt even list for that. Unless it's some sort of joke the owner likes to play on unsuspecting customers who venture in.

I remember the Crate guitars. I saw an ad one time in GW magazine for one of their amps, and a guy was playing through it with a Soloist/Strat body guitar that had a Crate logo on the headstock. I think there was even a contest to win one. I don't think their guitars went over very well, though.

I remember CRATE guitars. It was a Strat style with one hum and one single. It even had a reverse headstock. It had a locking trem (single locking too boot) volume knob, tone knob and a 3 position blade switch. They still make em, but they are Fender rip offs. Not bad for the money though. My bass player has a CRATE bass that sounds okay.

I've seen numerous examples of secondhand shops overpricing el cheapo import guitars. MusicYo Kramers, Charvettes, etc. I don't know where they get their prices from. Out of their asses, is my best guess.

And I had a Hyundai bass once.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

The day I bought my Model 4 from a pawnshop it was a toss-up between it, covered in dust and grunge, leaning against a wall in the corner, not even on a stand, for AU$180; or a Kramer 600, in all it's plywood glory, polished and hanging on the wall in the primo display position under a spotlight, single-locking Floyd Rose II gleaming, for AU$600. hmmm
