  • PRS CE-24?

Anyone ever play one of these or have any info on them? This is the bolt-on neck model. I've never played a PRS, but always dug the look of their archtop body.

I've owned two of them over the years. Much better than the set-necks, in my opinion. Of course, both of mine were pre-'95s, so I don't know much about the newer ones.

I preferred the neck feel on the CE-24s, and I thought their sound had a bit more character to it than the set necks.

        Re: PRS CE-24?

The ce 24 was my main guitar until I bought my jackson sl1 now it just sits in the case. Having said that they are very nice guitars with fast necks and excellent pickups. I think about selling mine a couple times a month but always change my mind

I own a ce-24 and a custom 22. I like them both but I really think that I like the pickups on the ce-24. They just seem to have more crunch. The custom 22 is great for a drop d. The CE-24 is the first thing I go for, sorry guys but I only own one Jackson. Its a PS4, I have yet to play an american jackson.

The CE-24 has a slightly thinner neck than the CE-22 models. I personally prefer wide/fat carve. Try a Swamp Ash Special if you can. It is my favorite PRS.

How does the CE-22's wide/fat neck compare to the CE-24's wide/thin profile? Any guitars you can compare them to?

Also, how well do their trems stay in tune?

                        Re: PRS CE-24?

                        i like my ce-24 alot.
i got a pre-95 with a small neck heel and it plays and sounds great. i've traded or sold all my jacksons and charvels since i got a prs.
to my ears, i think the prs has sustain for days and is very toneful.
it is not as fast playing as a jackson, but i feel the sound coming out of the prs is more focused and the tones are very rich/complex.

i'm comparing my prs to my old guitars which include:
                        charvel model3 w/ s/d pickups
epiphone les paul w/ gibson pickups
                        hamer studio w/ humbuckers
                        american strat standard
                        musicman axis
                        jackson roswell rhoads
                        ibanez s540
                        gibson les paul classic
                        jackson rhoads usa
                        warmoth soloist w/ s/d pickups
                        charvel san dimas 2 koa
                        brian moore i7
                        ibanez s classic
                        jackson at-1t w/ emgs
                        alvarez dana

in terms of overall rating, i like the prs the best, than the musicman, than the hamer studio.

in terms of pure sound, i like the prs, the gibson, than the hamer.

in terms of playability, i like the musicman, the jackson rhoads, than the model 3.

to be fair, the guitars were not a/b tested against one another, it was just from memory.

i agree that prs is an over priced guitar.
but sometimes you can get them used for approx $900 if you skip the 10 top, the birds, etc.

one more thing, in my experience, it seems like the lighter prs's sound better to me. more resonance, more sustain.

                        just my long 2¢

Yeah, I picked up my CE-24 in mint condition for $800. The guy bought it, played it for 6 months and then put it away. Mine is 98 model in scarlet red.

As for my Custom 22, I got a REALLY good deal at guitar center. I paid $1000 for it brand new. I was there with a bandmate, he was trying out some Mesa cabinets and picked up a PRS. When the sales person noticed he told him he could have that guitar for $1000. It was a one time deal, sorta thing, he didn't take him up on the offer so I did. It has bird inlay, but no ten top and it didn't come with a case. Right now those two guitars are my babies.

I've owned PRS guitars (still have an SC) and while they are well made and well designed, they are a bit overpriced for what you get. To my ears, they do ok for vintage rock type tones and what I call the "jangly 80's-90's college rock" sound, but that is about it. I have always thought they did better at rhythm work than leads, as single note lines sound a bit constipated on the ones I have owned and played. Not a bad instrument, but definately a bad value IMHO.
