• Is this a great/good deal? MM Axis

hi all...

I was browsing at a local guitar store today. I never got to ask the guy if it was used or not, but it was in MINT shape.

Music Man Axis with Case for 1100$ Cdn. It played great, and really compared nicely to my old Wolfgang USA. In fact, I liked the neck pocket design better.

Anyhow, it's a Orange translucent finish with matching headstock. Fixed bridge. Locking Tuners.

Everything is tight and clean on it.

Is this price average, or is it a steal. As well, are there any things to look for that would affect it's value?

It's a great guitar, right now I dont have the money to pick it up. But if I KNEW I could make 100$ on it, id buy it and sell it on the bay.

Thanks for any advice/insight!

By the way.

That 1100$ Cdn equates to around 800$ USD

I was looking into trading for one recently. Owner stated that they normally go for $800-$1000 US but I didn't see many on the 'bay getting bids far past $800 unless there was something outstanding about the particular guitar in question (i.e., brand new, "custom shop", etc.)

Cool.

I've read numerous reviews comparing the Peavey's to the MM's.

id say MORE people enjoy there MM's more, but it's fairly close. Having no played both, I think they are quite similar, but the MusicMan may have a better pocket design for a lil better high clearance. However, I never had a Wolf nearby to do a direct comparison.

Gosh how I miss those necks!!!!

Fixed bridge with locking tuners?
Are they Aixs or Super Sport Axis that has 5way switch?

MM build quality is fantastic.
Axis is a great guitar.
$800 u.s. for a mint Axis? I think is a good deal.
There are some go lower than that but usually have some issues such as dings, dirty fretboard and so on.
I have played both MM and Peavey Eddie model, I would say Musicman was my choice.
Peavey had much wider neck and pickups sounded too distorted compares to MM's Dimarzio.
I didn't like the trem bridge on Peavey.Neck was not 1 peice. It was Maple on Maple(which is better for the neck to stay straight).
MM necks move a lot and teh frets on MM were too small for me.

If that is an original Axis, not a Super Sport, $1100 cdn is a cool price - I'd grab it.
Those damn EBMM's are addicitve - I have a Morse and a Silhouette Special that I love. The skinny necks take a while to get used to if you're a Jackson man.

Hey gemini - if you don't pick it up, let the rest of us Canucks in on where you found it

Anyway, I have a few Axis's - and I used to have a Wolfgang. I think the EB/MM build quality is up slightly on the Peavey - they have a more hand-finished feel, where the Wolf always seemed a little too cookie-cutter to me. I too prefer the rounder fretboard radius on the Axis (10" vs. the Wolf's 15") and I think the Axis pups are a little sweeter as well, but the D-Tuna is a great invention (I swiped mine off my Wolf and put it on my Axis), and in the end I don't think you can go wrong with either guitar. That being said, I wouldn't pay $1100 CDN for an Axis hoping to make money off it, 'cause it ain't likely to happen...
