• BC Rich Bronze

I searced and found only a couple references to the bronze series. I know they are plywood, but if I remember correctly the first Kramer Focus guitars were plywood bodies also and they sounded good. A band mate of mine had a Focus when they came out. Anyway, I have found the Bronze Mockingbird on MF for $89.00. I want to get my son another guitar. He is playing a mini strat right now. I was looking at the Mexi-strats but if the Bronze are decent guitars I can save a lot of money and put it towards a really great guitar if he sticks with it. I know I can get a decent used Jackson or even a used Charvel for around $200.00 but $89.00 brand new! Of course a pile of crap for $89.00 is an $89.00 pile of crap. So all of these words are asking is the bronze series a pile of crap. Play bad, sound bad, high action, rollercoaster neck etc?

Yes, they are indeed a pile of crap. A buddy of mine bought himself a Bronze Warlock, and another Bronze model (forget which) for his son. He has nothing but trouble with them, but fell for Guitar Center's "half off" pricing. It's not just an issue of plywood, but also of crap components, huge gap in the neck pocket, and total inability to stay in tune.

I'd suggest finding an inexpensive Dean, a Jackson J-series or even a Squier Standard (NOT Affinity) Strat. The Jackson JS1 and JS20 are good guitars for the money.

Thanks, I thought of giving him my Dean Z Signature model. It is a pointy head strat body white neck import, but plays and sounds good or I might even consider giving him my Charvel model 2. Then he will be set. I am letting him use my Marshall 800 head on a Sound City 4X12 cab.

DO NOT BUY A FREAKING DAMN JS1/DX1 OR JS20! The JS30 is a HELLISHLY better guitar and costs about $50 more from what I've seen.

And yeah, those BC Rich Bronze series guitars are COMPLETE s**t. Plywood doesn't bug me. The s**tty components, horrible neck feel, half-inch action, UBER-SUCK(TM) Pickups, and general crappiness bugs me. Avoid unless you need firewood and they're free.

OK being mainly a BCR guy the bronze are not great. BUT if you know how to shim a neck and file some frets you can come out with a good deal. If the action is to high and the bridge is all the way down just shime the neck with a cut up baseball card. As for the necks LOTS of import guitars play like crap cuz the frets are not level, a quick file and fret clean will fix that. I had 1 import that I did not have too file ........what was it ?

i bought one of those from MF a few years ago b/c i missed my old warlock. totally agree that a neck shim and some fret levelling helped it. and i gotta say that the pickups in it screamed like a nun at a manson show. i didn't think they were plywood bodies, tho...and the neck was not unlike warmoth's thin profile.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The Focus guitars were solid wood; the Strikers were plywood. The Bronze BC Riches are, or were, plywood. I have seen MF advertise the wood as agatis, but it could still be agatis ply. They advertise the Epi LP Specials as maple/alder, meaning maple and alder plywood. The hardware and pickups on the Bronzes are really bad, but the necks are not that bad, like Sully said. If you're
not handy doing basic repair work it'd be cheaper to buy something that already plays and sounds decent.

I bought one bronze warlock, not a bad guitar for the price, i¿'d rather get of those instead of a fender, in fact my bronze warlock has a better fretboard and frets than my japanese ibanez RG 7420, anyways, you gotta shim the necks ojn almost every of them i think but big deal, but it stays in tune very well, and sounds well, though i replaced it's plywood body with a solid mahogany body and glued it to the body, i also got grover tuners for it and a single SH6 in the neck position, i used the neck, bridge and knob, and guess what? it's sounds just BRUTAL, those guitars aren't bad at all

Well, you replaced the body, tuners and pickup - sure it's a lot better with a mahogany body and SH6 pickup! That bridge is still about 1/3 the weight of a real Leo Quan Badass bridge though! It'd
sound better with a real Badass I'm sure.

You're right though, the necks are the best things about them. For made in Indonesia they're pretty good.

Re: BC Rich Bronze

After the price of a neck shim and fretwork, you could buy a MUCH better guitar. There is no reason whatsoever to buy one of those crapheaps. If you want a Warlock, check your pawn shops. I managed to score an older Platinum Warlock with a set of EMG's for $135.

A little quick searching puts agathis in the PINE family. PINE! Just go to a lumber yard and grab a few 2x6's and mash 'em together. Probably come out better than the Bronze series. PINE!

Pine, eh? I've asked before and been told it was related to mahogany. That's
interesting!

Here is a question for you. Whats better? Agathis or Chesswood

As far as which is worse, I don't think chesswood is much better.

I've said it before, but the day I unloaded my $450.00 NJ Beast I was a happy man, it was nowhere near the quality of my 80's NJ Mockingbird.

BC Rich has gone into the toilet as far as I can see.

The Bronze series is nothing more than an entry level guitar and priced accordingly. Bashing it means you are used to higher end guitars.

We are talking about a $90.00 guitar here! That includes material, labor, and shipping. There is obviously not much money put into material and labor. However, when Guitar Center had their 1/2 off sale, I went with my friend and looked at four different Bronze Warlocks before we found one that was worth buying. He is quite satisfied with his entry level guitar. Unfortunately, if you buy from Musicians Friend you do not have the option of trying it out, only the option of sending it back... Good luck with your decision.
