Identify this Strat

OK, you are all great at identifying rare Charvels and Jacksons.

Who can identify this rare Fender Strat?

All I know about it was that it was made in Japan, possibly for that market only. It has a nice paint job that fades from sparkle red to dark plain red. The body is very slim for a Strat. The neck is very flat, almost like a Jackson neck. It has an original locking Fender tremolo bridge that I have never seen anywhere before. Note the stringlock on the headstock. (Locking screws removed in picture.) The strings feed through the bottom, like a tun-o-matic, not through the back.

Any ideas?

Looks like a transitions Strat from the Contemparay series to the Elite series. I believe that trem was made by Kahler specifically for Fender. They playe dpretty well but the pups were a little week to vintagy for having a locking trem. Those trems were kind of a biotch to re string too. But that may be a lsightly different version than the ones i've dealt with. They had a couple differant variations of that one.

Looks like a transitions Strat from the Contemparay series to the Elite series. I believe that trem was made by Kahler specifically for Fender. They playe dpretty well but the pups were a little week to vintagy for having a locking trem. Those trems were kind of a biotch to re string too. But that may be a lsightly different version than the ones i've dealt with. They had a couple differant variations of that one.

Thats easy. That is a stock Jap strat from the late 80's or early 90's. They made zillions of them. I have had at least 6 or 7 throughout the years. What is the serial #? That will determine the year. First letter is the decade, First # is the year. They are very high quality except for the electronics. The maple necks are always highly laquered. The locking bridge actually works. The pickups stink. That was a very popular color too. So was cream. It was a transition strat between the stock Jap and the HM.

If I recall correctly, that's a "Series 1" trem there - I had one fitted to my old Katana. The Series 2 and 3 trems were more Kahler-like, and had a weird roller nut with side locking clamp.

That's a cool reference site.

OK, I guess it looks pretty much like a "Contemporary Standard", however, the bridge still looks slightly different than any of the ones shown on the site. It does look similar to the Series 1, though.

So what are these worth?

GC by my house has the same one with a duncan bridge pickup for 259.00. Played better and sounded better than the MM Axis that was next to it! Played em through a Marshall DSL halfstack that also sounded like ass until I plugged the head into an old Music Man cab that was also 259.00, BOY what a difference!
