Heard nothing but good things about these, and from what I've heard on Harmony Central, the customer service from Rondo music is second to none. Don't like it?? Send it back, he'll take it.

I'll have to agree with Chris, Burny or Grecco from Japan. I've played both at Chris' house and the Grecco was just as nice if not nicer than his real LP's!!!!! I don't even like LP's and I almost bought that one...But then I left with a Jackson..

Heritage or Hamer. Both are better than anything Gibson is putting out and for far less money.

I haven't actually played one, but the Dean EVO series are a sharp looking LP type guitar. I'm just judging by the pretty pictures on a dealer's website, and the prices seem extremely reasonable-binding, transparent finishes, qulted maple tops, etc. The most expensive one was around 500 bucks. I assume you could probably find a used one for quite a bit less. The Fernandes Ravelle series also look cool, even though they are kind of like a twisted up LP!

I've got to add my vote for Hamer. The Monaco is the best Les Paul type guitar I have ever played. I've tried Gibson Stds., Classics, Customs, PRS Singlecuts, Epi's and the Hamer Monaco beats all of them no contest. They're pricey, but well worth it. If I had the money, I would get one right now. In fact, if I ever decide to get a "Les Paul", it will be a Hamer. If you're looking for a Les Paul Jr. type, look at a Hamer Sunburst or Studio. Better than Gibson. I can't stress that enough. In fact, I have nothing bad to say about any Hamer I have ever played, except that I'm broke and can't afford one. (Except that I do have two already)

I can only speak from experience, and my Epiphone Les Paul Standard is awesome. I agree with most people when they say Epis are hit-or-miss. On the other hand, they "hit" a lot more than they're given credit for.

Just like with most lines, Epis makes higher end models that are very impressive and lower end models that completely suck. I knew a guy that just got a brand-new Epi LP (a Studio, I believe) that WOULD NOT stay in tune, no matter what. On the other hand, my Epi Standard has been one of the greatest guitars I've played. Looks, tone and playability are all excellent.

Play before you pay. But don't completely discount Epiphone. You'd be missing out on one of the greatest values out there.

Burnys are awesome. Incredible workmanship, sound killer. Chris' guitars usually has a couple. Great bang for not a lot of bucks.
