  • "Dimarzio" bodies info please

Can someone tell me any info on the Dimarzio stamped stuff??
I had a Dimarzio neck that was AWESOME and I seen a Dimarzio Explorer (abalone vintage??)
I was wondering what time frame these parts were built.
If my memory serves me correctly, I believe Lynn Ellsworth built all those kits for Dimarzio??

The interesting thing is every one I have seen whether it was a body, complete guitar or whatever was basically a clone of a Pre Pro Charvel.

    Any input from the experts??

      Re: "Dimarzio" bodies info please

I called Michael Charvel about a star body stamped dimarzio and he said they made some star bodies for dimarzio approx 83 thru 85 and were made of maple, alder, basswood or ash.He did say some dimarzio bodies were made overseas those were a hard wood or plywood. The charvel made bodies had the same control cavity routing as the san dimas bodies and should be dead on a charvel.
I have had 3 of these and they are great bodies 1 had a 3 way toggle on the lower point and the electronics cavity cut in an oval shape.
I made a pointy head mutt out of a swamp ash dimarzio body I think its the best guitar I have tone wise.It looks cool as h#%$.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

                  Re: "Dimarzio" bodies info please

ive had a few Dimarzio parts necks & bodies, they are almost dead on SD charvel. as for the info from Michael, Wayne wasnt working for charvel @ that time so i dont know how good his info was. the Dimarzio bodies made by charvel i thought was earlier than 83, there was some info on Rob Lanes site about them but i dont know if its still there. the only difference ive seen is that the trem spring route is slightly wider & often cuts into the pickup route, an easy fix for a semi competent wood worker. also the neck pockets are 2 3/16. BTW if you anyone selling a Dimarzio explorer or star body im interested

Does anyone have a Dimarzio Star body they'd be willing to almost give away?

I thought the years that charvel made them would have been earlier too. That was my recolection of the phone call,I might be off too.Yes some bodies do have a slot in the trem cavity.(I've had both).
The DiMarzio strat head necks are awsome too. They are not the same dimensions as a san dimas neck but still are very nice necks great for project guitars. All of those I've seen have been 21 fret vintage trem strat type nut.I wish I had more of the DiMarzio stuff.IF I do find more I'll pass them on to you guys on the JCF for what I've got in them you pay shipping Fair enough?
