• GMW Wood Myths Dispelled

Just wanted to post a brief note to dovetail on the recent thread about GMW/Moser guitars in the Classified section. I visited GMW today and spoke to Dan Lawrence, the "W" (for "wizard") in the company name, and asked him directly if they cut their own bodies and necks from raw wood or if they bought them from another source already prefabricated. Dan affirmed that they indeed cut their own necks and bodies, and that they have a wood shop with "...a couple of guys..." who do the woodworking for the shop. I'm just passing along the word from the man himself. They have never hidden the fact that they have used Warmoth parts in the past on the original Moser guitars, as well as assorted projects, but they do not use an outsourced supplier for their own instruments.

I hope that anyone who might be considering ordering an instrument from GMW will be comfortable and confident in doing so. I was in exactly the same position a year ago, when I was contemplating having a guitar made and didn't know which shop to order from. I did my homework, asked around, and felt comfortable enough to ultimately go with GMW. And boy howdy, from what I saw today (my unfinished guitar and neck in raw paint form), am I glad that I did!

Anyone with any questions about GMW specifically, just call 'em up and ask. Lee, Dan and Neal (Neal doesn't work in the shop with them, but he's very accessible on the web through his own site) have always been upfront and straightforward with me.

          --------------------
          I predict: ZERO BIDS!

          LOL...funny, dude!

It took me a minute to realize that "today" was no longer Saturday, but it was now early Sunday morning! That's what I get for being an insomniac; I'm on a different "clock" than the rest of the world.

Actually, I was out there in Dan's pit early Saturday afternoon. He sends his luv to all of you...

I saw a black and yellow VH body and a Lynch tiger stripe body on the main counter, and a bunch of Rhoads polka dot harpoon headstock bodies...but I don't recall seeing a rising sun graphic.

I was told the W in GMW was for another guy who either quit or was fired from GMW and Lee says its for Dan just so he doesn't have to tell the story. Rightly so I've seen Dan's graphics and he's pretty damn good, not trying to take anything away from him.
