    Re: Need opinions......modding my Strat

Jon, Thanks for all the advice.

What exactly would the restrictor look like?

As far as the invader goes, I think it kills. It is just nasty and snarly, which was exactly what I was looking for. My Charvel 475 is more of a pretty, smooth drawn out crunch. The Invader is in your face, right now, and unbelievably quiet when your are not strumming.

Anyhow, I am thrilled with this guitar. One Volume, One Bucker, big balls sound, cool surf green finish. Just needs new tuners, thats it, and even that is questionable.

I went to the shop expecting to drop a couple grand on a Paul, and walked away with a $449 Mexican strat that I really like.

    Go Figure.

The capacitor is usualy a brownish red roundish, square thing with 2 wires soldered to the volume pot. Can't miss it. It's up to you if it is there to take it off. To the best of my knowledge I wouldn't know why a capacitor would be on a volume knob. Usualy the tone knob has one and it determines how intense or how dramatic the change in tone as you turn the knob. I may be wrong. I'm just going off what someone else told me. I believe the De Long Strat is a Strat with the balls of a Les Paul. Good axe.

That cap may very well be a treble bleed. What a treble bleed does is allow you to roll the volume down and still maintain the brightness. I guess you can call it an anti-mud control. I doubt that it restricts the Invader and most likely it makes it more useful. I would think twice before cutting it out. It is a great pro mod.

If any pickup ever needed that mod, it's the Invader! Those Harmony Central guys were experiencing the placebo effect or confusing mud with balls.

After thinking about it and asking around, yeah, you guys are right. I never did the mod myself because by the time I would have wanted to I was ready to sell off my Delongs. One of the reviews was pretty harsh when it came to taking the capacitor out.
