    Re: New Kramers...

If the Kramer and USA Soloist heels are too blocky for you, how can you stand the
REAL blocky heel of a JS30, or any bolt neck Jackson for that matter? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

      Re: New Kramers...

Okay, that does make sense to me because I use the heel on a bolt-neck the same way. I just don't have the problem with
the USA Soloist type heel. I find my thumb is just long enough that I can wrap my thumb around the neck with my 3rd and pinky naturally hitting the 24th fret ready for the vise-grip bend. So for me the diff between the USA and Japanese Soloist heels is immaterial.

If I'm playing scales or arpeggios up that high my thumb stays at the midpoint
ridge on the back of the neck-heel, and again it's prefectly comfortable for me.
Then again I got used to a Les Paul Standard so I guess anything else is a step up for upper-fret accessibility.

My Iceman's heel joins the body at the 17th fret, and it's carved so that it looks like a neckthru (it's actually a set neck). I always keep my thumb in the indention where the body and neck meet. You can get a good grip for those really annoying MEEEEEEEE!'s. My hands are actually damn tiny and the angle that I hold my frethand at on a Soloist, the heel interferes with it on the USA Soloists and similar heels.
