        Re: New Kramers...

I have played the 404 with the Floyd copy and it had the D-Tuna. I have played the Ibanez neck-thru as well as a Jackson SL1. The Kramer felt alot like the Ibanez neck-thru. Not bad at all. The Jackson SL1 has a different more comfortable feel. If I had never played a Jackson SL1 I'm sure I would have gotten used to the Kramer neck-thru, but after playinf a variety the SL1 wins hands down. I used to own a Striker 400 one humbucker model with the D-Tuna. It's a bolt on. I had my old trusty 1994 Jackson Dinky Reverse. The Striker was cool, but once again the Jackson won hands down. It's not that Jackson is totaly better, it's because I prefer Jackson guitars. The MusicYo Kramers are pretty darn cool and have a place in the "best bang for your buck" catagory. The hardware can suck on some and be great on others. The pickups are pretty good and YES, as James said, they are almost perfect for old school death metal sounds. They are pretty versitile and clean up well with the very useable coil taps. If a famous, well known player started slinging the Yo Kramers exclusively they wouldn't be cheap anymore and they would be held in a much higher regard. Their success is based on the low prices. As far as the 1984 Kramers go............I don't know. One thing I do know..........The black and red bullseye will be mine ASAP! Gotta have one. If I get it and it's a total turd I can always get rid of it. I hope my short review wasn't biased. If Kramers were cheap 20 years ago I would of had one instead of the Hondo Strat copy I started with. I would probably still have it today. Another thing I might add. I have been asked by alot of beginners about the new Kramers. I recomended them to these kids. Next thing I know they get one and i get to check em out. I have also played the Focus and the Pacer. Not bad for a entry level axe. Not bad for a backup axe either.

        Ok..............now I'm done.

            Re: New Kramers...

In the beginning of Musicyo I was buying up $69.00 Focus strats and parting them out and selling them for 2x+ the cost on the bay. They aren't half bad guitars. For around 3 months the sunburst bodies that were being shipped were solid wood with an Alder cap and the red ones were solid wood as well. I have played all levels and models because I refer most of my students to them if they are looking to buy and have little funds. Everything that I have played has been acceptable. The 404 with the floyd and the drop D is really a nice guitar and the twin blade hums and sings aren't to shabby either. I bet they will sell an entire forest of those 1984's.

                    Re: New Kramers...

I haven't tried any of the new Kramers, but I bought a H/S/S pickguard assembly from MusicYo with the Quad Rails, installed them in a friend's old Epiphone Strat copy and thought they sounded pretty decent. I've heard some people say those pickups aren't that great, but I thought they were pretty good.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

                            Re: New Kramers...

I have owned a total of 5 neck-thru Baretta's, currently own 3(2 404S/D's and a US Collection version). Each and every one is very, very well built with quality wood, finish and construction. The quad-rail hums sound a lot like an EMG 81, lots of low end. The Floyd copy is pretty decent too, better than the Japanese Jackson JT-580. The d-tuna is junk so just take it off.

The Music-Yo Baretta's are nice guitars in dire need of a setup when you receive them. If you can set one up properly, you'll have a guitar every bit as good as a Japanese SL-3/SL-4 for half the money. They're no SL-2 but but excellent guitars for the money.

As far as the US Collection high dollar versions.... I have one of the originals with the real original Floyd and Seymour Duncan pickups. Does it play any better than the 404 S/D's??.... no. It's just different with a better trem, arguably better pickups, and built quite a bit differently with a different neck angle that sets the Original Floyd in a non-recessed position(although the recessed area is still there). Also, the neck is attached 3 frets higher up so you have better access to the top frets.

They're NOT as good as an SL3/4, nowhere near it. The finishes are s**tty looking, the necks feel weird, the hardware is crap, the neck joint is too damned blocky, and that tremolo feels like total s**te compared to a JT580LP.

Yes, it's a good guitar for the money but don't go comparing it to an SL3/4. It's not even in the same league.
