I actually like the earliest versions that were actually built by Tokai.(THis stopped after only 2 years of production and have been proudly hand made in the USA ever since)
I had a killer flametop with a vintage trem and reverse banana head neck. KILLER guitar.
The new Robins are VERY cool too, and a great deal in the used market..

Chuck, that's not exactly right. You're correct that the first ones (~'81 timeframe) were built by Tokai. They're very traditional: vintage style trems, v-necks, lower radius fretboards, etc. Very cool and very cheap on the used market.
Most of the 80s Robins were built by ESP (95% certain here - it was in Japan and post Tokai) and are very similar to the US built ones. They're also excellent, but definitely more of a Jackson flavor to them. You'll find more Kahlers than Floyds on these for those who prefer Kahlers.
They didn't start US production until almost 1990. (It's easy to tell because they have Made in USA on the front, and a Texas star design on the back of the headstock.) You find lots more exotic woods, paint jobs, etc. on these and they do bring a bit more $$$ due to being Made in USA but I'm not really sure they're any better than the others.

way to go BM...nice one. I think the first time I ever saw anyone play one was Adrian Vandenberg in the video of Burning Heart...nice quilt top strat. I lived in Houston before I moved to Dallas and I'd go to Rockin Robin Music and drool over their stuff. They are great USA built guitars, I thought they were a bit over priced but probably worth it for a hand made guitar. Resale vale is a killer and probably some of the best buys out there for a top quality USA model
