Pickup Cover was probably upside down to emulate the original Performance guitar GMW was copying. Here is the original:

Over the years I have had several Carvin guitars and a bass and without exception they all needed to have the pickups pulled out and shot. Our old singer had a Carvin star looking thing and we wouldn't even let him plug it in until he got new pickups. It sounded like ass.

They may not be for everybody, but Carvin pickups don't suck. I had three Carvins with awesome stock humbucking pickups (C22). Jgcable is a big fan of the Carvin pickups, too. Check out the Carvin board for guys who are big fans of their pickups. Carvin's been in business for a pretty long time, I think they know what they're doing. They're less expensive because they sell direct and cut out the middle man.

I have ripped out many a Dimarzio/Duncan/Lawrence/Evans pickups and replaced them with Carvins. The only other pickups I use are Gibson mini-humbuckers and EMG's. I have never heard a Carvin pickup that sounded like a$$. I am not a fan of their AP11's but then again I am also not a fan of custom shop Texas Specials. For singles I swear by Duncan Quarter Pounders. C22's, M22's, C26's, I think they are all great. Maybe your old singer with the Carvin Star should have stuck to just singing and left the Carvin guitar playing to somebody else
That was just a joke... I just love defending my favorite PASSIVE pickups!! CARVIN baby....

Thats a sweet looking guitar.I love mohagony. It's my favorite tone wood. The Custom is a great sounding pup too. I have on in my San Dimas Strat head and it sounds perfect in it. For the neck i would try a Cool rails neck or a Vintage staggered stack. Either would go great with the Custom.

I like the Cool Rails quite a bit. I am leaning towards that or a JB Jr. I am going to try a few different ones at the Philly Guitar show this weekend (if I can find guitars with them installed).
