  • Just Got My Lefty Wayne Monster

    HI all,

It's been a while since I have posted on the board. I'm a Jackson SL1 owner and have always been interested in the early Charvel stuff. We all know that there aren't many lefties out there so I called Wayne about about a year ago and talked to Micheal. He said that he would do a lefty. So a year later..

I just got it. The serial # is 24. I had them put a coil tap switch in to get the straty sound. I haven't had a chance to plug it into my Marshall but I can say that the workmanship is awesome. It has the tightest neck pocket that I have seen in my life. The neck is a little big compared to my ernie ball Axis SS. But it playes great. It has a mohagany body w/ a maple neck and board. It's one of only 2 lefties that he has built. The other one was a rock legend that Micheal made for his buddy.

I have been on the board for the last couple of weeks and don't understand what the negitivity is about the Wayne stuff. From my what I have seen so far it seems top notch to me. I only buy pro guitars and this one hangs with all the others in that price range.

          Wayne,Ihave my #8 Monster,added neck pickupand 3way switch.
It sounds really great but dony like the fret job on mine and neck profile is so different from older San Dimas Charvels I own.
But for the tone and sound, these Monster are great but Lee at GMW would make one like this much cheaper and better in my opinion.
See GMW Thread in another category. There is a mahogany body GMW.

tho i find it hard to believe in 2 years they only made 23 monster series guitars before yours. while the neck pocket is tight side to side how big of a shim is under the neck? have you had any problem with intonation.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Intonation seems ok so far. I will be gigging with it this weekend, so I'll know for sure. As far as shims go - I can't tell. I'll see if I can spot anything without taking the neck off. It sure would be a shame if they had to use shims on it.

I only got the Monster because I wanted to see what the waynes are all about without spending over 2K. Monsters are pretty plain. I would assume that most people buy the waynes for the cool paint jobs and shapes. That could be why they havent made many. I would like to know the Serial nubers of other Monster owners.

I just gigged with the Wayne tonight and it held up pretty well. The body is all mohagany and the neck and fretboard is all maple. It had a pretty bright sound that cut through well. It was almost straty sounding even when I used the humbucker without the coil tap. On the clean stuff the coil tap worked out great. I did have to crank up my clean channel a bit though. The intonation was on. It sustained very nicely. I have a Marshall TSL 100 and a 4X12 Cabinet w/ greenbacks and it sounded great through my rig.
