• Holy Grail of Flying V's....

Today I chanced upon a 1980 Silverburst Flying V at of all places, Guitar Center. I have been looking for one in the right condition and at the right price for a long time. Aside from some fret wear, this one looked like it was brand new. All original parts, case (including keys and original warrenty/registartion card). The few others I have seen were priced higher and in much worse condition. Needless to say, I slapped down the plastic and left estatic to be the proud owner of a considerably rare Gibson.

Isn't 1980 the first year for the silverburst finish? That is one heck of a guitar ..

Nice. Too bad the pickguard kinda ruins the finish, though.

Silver bursts are rare because they look like ass so no one ordered them when they were new. I've seen a lot of people wanting silverbursts lately.. Some well known player must be using them.

Oh well to each his own enjoy your ax

It's kinda like when Fender used to do the Antigua Burst finish a long time ago. The color was originally made to cover up flaws and blemishes. http://www.pittsburghguitars.com/collantigua.html
