• Got my cheapo BC Rich STIII today.

I'm at work right now. I had it shipped here so I could hide it from the wife.

The bad:
This thing is filthy. It looks like the guy was using it to eat off of. It's going to take a couple of hours to take it all apart, and get it nice and sparkling clean before I do a complete set-up on it.

The good:
No surprises as far as damage and wear. The pictures showed everything pretty well. One tiny finish chip in the front, and some mean looking belt rash on the back. The neck feels great. I have never played one of these, so I was taking a big chance. It came with a pretty decent hardshell case. The guy didn't mention a case, so as far as I'm concerned, it's a freebie. The midi pickup and controls were installed professionally, and they did a great job. It almost looks factory.

When it's all clean and setup, I'll take some pics. (if I can find my friggin camera)
Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

Glad to know I'm not the only guy who has done the "hide the guitar from the wife" thing...

Re: Got my cheapo BC Rich STIII today.

This is the LA series he was posting about for 160.oo give or take a twenty... so bolt-on.

I do the same thing.. hide the guitar, hide the box, she ain't stupid.. she'll know evetually, lest it's hidden well for months.

She knows a little about guitars but not alot. Guitars of similar colors really do not confuse her either. She suprised me as one day as she could even tell the visual difference in scale on the necks when I had a 24.75 and a 25.5 on stands next to one another and didn't say anything, so I give her credit for being pretty obsverant.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nah, I have nothing to plug into to try it. I'm actually going to remove everything, and put it back (or as close as I can get it) to stock. It was a pretty invasive installation, but professionally done, so it's not hacked up. Basically, they enlarged the route for the bridge pickup toward the neck so that it could be moved about 1/4" away from the bridge to allow enough room to squeeze in the MIDI pickup. All I need to fix this is an oversize pickup ring. No biggie. A five way selector switch was added to switch between pickups, because 2 of the 3 on/off switches were taken out and replaced with up and down buttons to control the MIDI synth unit. I will be replacing the on/off switches, and disconnecting the 5-way, but leaving it in, rather than an empty slot. Other than that, the only external evidence of the MIDI gear is the giant plug next to the standard jack. It's going to leave a pretty big hole when I take it out, so I might just put a plank plate over it rather than try to fill it and touch it up. It's a player, not a beauty queen.
