Have you guys seen this? The new Gibson digital guitar. Works kinda like the Variax, but looks cooler and has more features. What do you think?

It seems to me Kramer had something along a similar vein with the Stereo Ripley.. each string had it's own pickup/sensor and could be panned and processed individualy.

Of course this is much more sophisticated and I'd love to play with one.

And yes, it does look cooler than the Variax.

seems pretty cool, but i like the way guitars are now..... just sounds strange, i wouldn't like the change.

That's ridiculous. The claim "imagine using 2000ft. cable and no quality loss!" - is easily remedied with a digital wireless sytem, say an X-Wire or if they ever come out with a 24 bit model. Plus, you'd be wireless! Being able to convert the string signal to digital is not much to brag about. "Imagine using an amp for each string!" Please, I'd rather not! Oh, yeah, that feature will really catch on. I owned a Ripley stereo guitar, an actual custom Ripley, not the Kramer Ripley, and I never thought it was any big deal. Some cool panning can be done. It was more of a distraction. I eventually gutted the stereo eletronics for traditional pickups. A true evolution in guitar was the Synth Axe. And like anything that was far ahead of it's time it was pretty much lost by the wayside.
