Re: Les Paul Dilemna

Cool. Let us know how everything turns out. As far as string gauge goes, that would be your preference. I used to play 9's all the time. Not much difference in tone really, vs. 10's I mean. As my hands got stronger, I found that I was bending the crap out of the 9's and just needed something a little more stout.

On my Jackson's, I tune to C so I use a 13-56 set!!

I tune a half step down and use 11's on all of my guitars. Of course they are all 25.5" scale as opposed to the 24.75" of a Les Paul. I find that the thicker strings affect more than just the feel. The tone improves with thicker strings. It results in a richer, fuller sound. This is more obvious when comparing 11's to 9's. One gauge up is dificult to notice too much. Although it is harder to play fast with thicker strings, I find the improvement in tone to be worth it.

If anyone is looking I have a 2001 les paul studio for sale.Teal blue (flip flop)490T/498T chrome hardware block in lay Black pearl pick guard and switch ring.OHSC 800.00 shipped.Very clean 1 small finish crack at neck joint I don't know why every les paul I've owned has a finish crack somewhere, but this is a nice guitar.Neck profile is smaller than most studios I've had more like a 60s neck.Thats one thing about gibson no two necks feel the same to me anyway. You could play 10 studios and they would all feel different.I guess whoever was shaping necks the day mine was made took off a bit more wood.
Really? well screw Mark Twain.

You really have to go for what works for you. Personally, I would go with a custom over a classic, but I am a custom kind of guy.

Has anyone tried an LP with the Burstbucker Pro pickups? They are now in the Standards. I've been very curious about this all-mahogany carved-top LP that is a Musician's Friend "exclusive" - it's like a Studio model since it doesn't have any binding, and it's priced accordingly at $999 new:

Les Paul Vintage Mahogany

The Mahogany top and Burstbucker Pros should make it quite different from a typical Studio model though. I just can't find any reviews/info on them since they are only being sold through MF.

Which one?

The Classic because of the deal? Also, if anyone else is interested, I could email you his info. Really cool shop here in Tampa. Super nice guy.

Well, what I would do is go try them both out on rigs similar to yours and see which one sounds and feels the best to you.

Isn't the Classic the light one?
