  • Les Pauls with maple necks?

Any newer Les Pauls out there with maple necks instead of mahogany? I know the Zakk Wylde model has one, not sure about any others. I've heard in the '70s and '80s there were some models, but I'm just wondering about within recent years. Thanks.

Zakk's has a maple neck that is shaved and oiled....very cool. The fretboard is ebony. I have seen a few with maple fret boards...but only 2 or 3 and I cannot remember if they were Gibsons.

I would love to get the Zakk Les Paul...but they are way too expensive.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the Zakk model, but it is definitely too expensive. He does have one or two models with maple boards, and I've seen some pics of old Gibsons with maple boards, but I'm more interested in something more current with an ebony board and maple neck without the hefty price tag.

I don't know of a production Gibson Les Paul with a maple neck other than the ZW model and that's a shame because I really like maple necks. However Epiphone does have a signature model for one of the members of Sevendust that does have a maple neck.

Most all late 70's Les Paul's have 3 piece maple necks. They also tend to have the 'pancake' bodies too, which was several laminates of mahogany (4 is the most common) with a walnut center strip capped with 2 or 3 piece maple tops.

I remember that now. That was the Norlin era, right? Seems it's a love or hate thing with people and guitars of that era.

I actually just checked out the Epiphone site, and it seems the John Connolly model does have a mahogany neck/maple board. The Zakk model does have a maple neck, though, with a rosewood board.
