Accept2: That's no excuse for churning out shit and putting your name on it. The fucking Korean-built Epiphones stomp the hell out of the cheaper Gibsons in terms of quality control. There is NO reason for that to happen. When I pay $600+ for a guitar, I expect it to have frets that are nice and shiny and don't have sharp points on the end. I expect it to feel like a solid, well built guitar and not like a hacked up tree. I don't demand perfect workmanship, or any frills. I don't care at that price about ebony, binding, real MoP, high quality pots, etc. What I DO care about is that the guitar is playable the second I get it from the factory, and the cheaper Gibsons simply are not.

While looking at the faded sries, I also happen to look at the LP Standard and Classic, the rosewwod boards are dry and cracked and not very nice grain and the frets are terrible, it is a shame Gibson charges so much for these($1500), I wouldn`t pay more than about $799 for one. For $1500 I can buy a nice Hamer Studio Custom or Monaco Elite, or for a little more a nice Baker. Gibson sells by name and people don`t do their homework. My buddy had a Class 5 LP which I thought was way overpriced, ya the top was decent but the the feetboard and frets were not, for what he paid, he could have gotten a custom Hamer or Baker and got a much finer instrument. Gibson makes me sick for what they give you for the price [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img] Jack.

I tell ya what guys, pick up all the classics you can for $799, and I will take them all. Then you can go and buy Hamers till your hearts content.

Nothing sounds like a Paul.Thats why I bought one. If you want perfect finish and QC, get a PRS. I did that too. Unless of course, you would prefer a Hamer...LOL

Or, how about this, You trade me all the classics and standards you can find used, and I will find all the Hamer's I can (and God knows they are everywhere...sic) and we swap even up, seeing as you wouldnt pay more than $799 for a Lester, you would be really killing me on that one.

Some of the comments posted here make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Maybe mine included of course. But to say that "current" Gibsons are all junk unless they come out of the custom shop" or, " I wouldnt own one"is a ludicrous statement at best. I saw a brand new SL1 , right out of the box at GC last week, and you could have rolled a golf ball right up the neck the setup was so high. You have to take each model on a case by case basis, and no matter what you do, or say, nothing sounds, feels, or has the les paul vibe, like an actual Les Paul. So Hamers, etc..are all very nice guitars in their own right, but they are not Les Pauls. IMHO

Actually, I don't think I'll be getting a Les Paul for awhile, if ever now, but we'll see. I have a lead on a similar LP-shaped guitar for a good price, but it's not a Gibson. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm not even talking about SETUP issues. Those can be screwed up at the store. I don't mean minor finish flaws, or even missing parts. I'm talking about fret ends that you could grate cheese on, SINKING finishes on $1000+ guitars, crappy feeling hardware, and ASS-UGLY rosewood boards. Gibson is turning out utter crap and they have no excuse. Slapping your name on shit and then selling it at a high price is fucking ridiculous. I've seen shit on Gibons that I wouldn't let pass on a fucking INDIAN-BUILT guitar.

I am not even going to get in on the Gibson debate other than to say this. I must've just gotten lucky on the Gibsons I own. I have none of the complaints you guys have.

I second That Stuka,I absolutely love my Paul and I am not sure that anyone who has owned one feels the same way that someone who casually looked at one does.

It starts to feel like home very quickly, at least it did to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love LP's. Hell, the best neck I've ever felt was on an SG standard. But Gibson's quality, especially on the lower priced models, is crap for the most part. A good Les Paul is worth its weight in gold (and that's a LOT of gold, on average [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] ), but as has been said numerous times already, you have to wade through a ton of shit to find a farthing.
