Well...I used to have an RG7420 and it was pretty good but I just seem to see awesome reviews about the RG7620's. I'm looking for one of those right now. Also I'd like a Carvin 727 or 747. I really want one of those. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]Comment

If you're looking for a used one, the 7620's are the best value. They are great guitars but don't seem to hold their value in the used market. I've seen them go for less than $400. If you're looking for a new one, the 1527 is your best bet. It is the new version of the 7620 with the new Edge bridge and Ibanez pickups. I got one of those a few months ago and it is great. However, I replace the stock pickups in just about everything I get (unless it has Duncans to begin with). Some people really like the Ibanez pickups but I find they leave alittle to be desired. Either of these two are going to be great guitars for your money. The 7420 and 7320 are Korean made and are not of the same quality as the Japanese 7620 and 1572. However, I have not played either of those two so I cannot really comment on them.Comment

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Both are made in Japan, but the 7620 has an a LoPro Edge-7 bridge (nice) whereas the 7420 had a TRS-7 bridge (not as nice). And like he said, the 7620=DiMarzio's; 7420=Ibanez pickups. Also, most 7420 had a bubinga reinforcing stripe up the back of the neck where the 7620 mostly did not except in the final year of the 7620's production. I find the Universe the best Ibanez 7 string though some Prestige model's might be nice too i haven't tried them. I have tried the RG 1527. It felt pretty nice and I guess it's a good deal. I like my Universe better. There are some downfalls to the new RG 1527, being that they don't use locking trem pivot studs anymore compared to the older models (7620, old Universe's) which did have them. Could be some problems with tuning stability, or return to zero point because of that. The RG 7620's are a good deal. I recently bought a used one for $200 with OHSC. It was pretty beat up but still, it worked. Budget? Rg 7620. The best? Go with a Universe.Originally posted by Michael:

Thanks for the RG clarification. My favs of the Ibanez 7s are actually the Sabre and the K7. If I were going to play their 7 strings, that's what I'd play. I've played some UVs I like, but most of them lack something to me...
The Prestige line are very nice but pretty rare and serious cash when you do find one. I know someone who plays the six string verisons extensively, and he swears by them. I keep telling him to play his San Dimas Rhoads more, to facillitate his deprogamming. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

When Shopping for Ibanez, it's always wise to go with anything that is "Made In Japan" The rest of it is hard to resell.Comment

Get an Ibanez RG7620. For the price, it can't be beat - great neck, lo-pro trem, Dimarzio New-7 pickups. If cosmetics don't matter, you can pick them up in the $300 price range.

Some of the Prestige line are actually not all that expensive. Then again, some of them are. You can find them from $600-$1000+ THe K7 inlay to me is butt-ugly. I wouldn't play one for that reason alone.Comment

I dont know if your dead set on an ibanez, but a decent all round 7 string guitar, is the Conklin Groovetools 7 string... Conklin specialise in guitars with 7-8-9 strings and basses with 5-6-7-8-9 strings... they know how to make em work better than anyone else as far as production line instruments go, and thier customshop is one of the best in the world IMO, i have an 8 string from them, solid quild maple body sides, neckthrough, MIDI on all 8 strings, the thing is a work of art, and a technological work of genius, all in a package just about the size of a guitar [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img] .Comment
