• Thinking about buying an explorer...

So I went down to guitar center yesterday because I want to get a non-trem guitar. I found two different explorers that I thought seemed pretty good. A Used Gibson Gothic Explorer and a Used Hamer Standard Explorer. The price of the gibson was $800 dollars and the Hamer was $400. I though both of these prices seemed pretty steep considering they're used.
Could some of you guys help me out and tell me if these are fair prices or if I should look to ebay or somewhere else? Also, how hard is it to negotiate prices at GC? Thanks for any help!

I think you can do better ......
Are you in cincinnati ? - the GC up here has both those same guitars at the same price. The goth, if it's the same one is really beat up. They have a "new" one in the front with a chip taken out of the lower corner of the guitar I could have bought for about $825 w/tax. If were talking the same place, you might want to push them down on the new one.

You can most likely get a gothic on ebay for about 600. I'de do that.

Guitar Center sells brand new Gibson Explorers for $899.00. I believe Musicians Friend does also.

Well, it would be no contest if that was a USA Hamer standard, they blow Gibson Explorers out of the water, much better product. If I were you dude, save up and get a New standard USA, about $2250 new with case Or used about $1200. jack.

Have you considered a Dean Z? It's basically the same thing as an explorer, and the '79 Series can be had brand new with hardshell case for less than $500. They even have nice flametops on them, although they are veneers. They come in black, white, trans braziliaburst, and trans cherryburst. The last 2 have the flametops. Real nice guitars for the money.

I gotta back Guitarforceone on this. I bought a Dean ML Select from him (basically the same as the '79 series, just fancier inlays and binding, gold hardware, etc...) and it plays almost as nice as my KV2!
