Re: Peavey Adrian Vandenburg

The original Vandy neck-thrus are pretty rare, I believe, but you see the bolt-ons around on occasion at used guitar stores.

that new Korean Vandy looks pretty cool, but I wish it had an ebony board and less of all that abalone applique around--a little too "pimp" for me.

It's relatively cheap, too (around $400, I think) for a neck-through, and it's very dressed up now, with quilted maple top, tons of abalone, etc.

I'm watching a video of Vandenburg live in Japan from about`84 on their "Heading for a Storm" tour as I type this!!! Remember, "It's to late to stop the Train"!!! Man that tune Kicks Butt!! and the big radio hit "Burning Heart" Adrian was so much better with his own band than with Whitesnake!!
Oh yeah!, I love Savatage and TNT also!!

Ya I love the 24.75 scale, but when you use 9-42 strings, Drop D isn`t all that good, so if you Drop D it, go with 9-46 or 10-46, I tune E-E so i am cool with 9-42s on the short scale Jack.

Well, all this loose talk about cool guitars is making me a poor (but happy) man. I just went out today and bought a beautiful V-Type today in transparent purple. I have WAY too many guitars already to justify, but I couldn't pass this beauty up.

If this is what Korean guitars are coming to, then I think Korea has arrived as a guitar manufacturer. This axe looks amazing and plays beautifully. I love its many unique touches, e.g., short scale, really cool-looking Grover tuners with outline heads, cool body shape, nice output jack placement (further up on the body than usual, which helps prevent the cord from getting kinked when sitting on the couch - still not as cool as the Hamer Californian's arrangement though), slotted backplate (why aren't they all?), etc.. The headstock is the coolest take on the classic Gibson explorer shape that I have seen. It has a rosewood fretboard, but it is very dark and close-grained and looks much more like ebony than any of my other rosewood fretboards. The matte finish all-black hardware also contrasts very nicely with the flashy top and abalone. This guitar looks great in black, too, from the photos I've seen. In fact, I actually went looking for a black one, but they only had this one. I love it! (In case you can't tell). I highly recommend checking these out if you get a chance.

Hey, it's great to hear there are some Vandenberg/TNT/Savatage fans out there! That would be great to see Vandenberg in concert. I actually got to see TNT play in a bar in St. Paul once, and it was unbelievable. I'll never understand why TNT didn't make it bigger than they did.

                Congrats man!!!

I liked the trans purple better than the black, and would love to get that one... maybe will in a few months. You're making me jealous now!

                    Re: Peavey Adrian Vandenburg

Here's a shot of the trans purple V-Type I just got:

The pic isn't perfect, as it turned out kind of dark, so I had to mess with the brightness and contrast a bit, but it lets you see the guitar, anyway.

I'm planning to post a full review at Harmony Central, but let me say right now that this is a GREAT guitar. I love it! The neck is a bit thicker than my SL4 necks are, but it's very comfortable. I may take the shine off of it with a Scotch Brite pad though, after I have it for awhile (I love satin finished guitar necks). I will probably also eventually replace the pickups with EMGs. The stock pickups are fine, but I love EMGs. Then add a Tremsetter, (big plus for any tremolo equipped guitar), a case (could be a problem getting one to fit if I don't get the $129.99(!) Peavey case, as this guitar's body is quite unusual in its proportions) and a set of Strap-Loks, and I'm done!

This thing might be made in Korea, but it looks and feels like a custom shop guitar.

P.S. Anyone know where I can get a nice tweed or flight case style guitar case that will fit this (body is very wide in the "rear end," so a non-form-fitting or loose form-fitting case would probably work better. I'd like to get something more distinctive than the usual plastic case if I can, to match the guitar's uniqueness. Thanks!

                      WOW!
I have never seen that model. Is that a reissue model?

Also,my first U.S. made guitar was Peavey AV model in Red.
I miss that thing and hope to buy one used someday.

I wouldn`t mind buying a New Korean one if it had less Bling-Bling, just basic Black or something, they look cool and that 24.75 scale Jack.

dinky - That's a Peavy V-Type reissue of the Vandenberg. I believe the one pictured is what they're calling a "Limited Edition". There's also a standard EXP w/o the abalone and quilt top and there was a US version produced briefly last year.

Who build Peavey guitars in the U.S.....is it that valley arts group?

The Korean made V-Type with the abalone is the ONLY V-Type you can buy from Peavey. (At least as of this moment)

The"Limited Edition" is mis-leading, as it's the only edition.

There is no US model anymore.

I was gonna get a used USA model from Ebay, but after seeing this neck-through... from a cosmetics point of view, I'd be down-grading.

I haven't heard anything bad from those who have one, and I'm not hung up on US guitars (although I own a few )so I'm excited and can't wait until mine comes in.

                                Re: Peavey Adrian Vandenburg

Steve - As far as I know Peavey still builds their own US made guitars down south.

2loud - Thanks for the clarification. When they resurrected these there were two models: one made in the US and an EXP (Korean). Neither had the abalone body inlays and I believe the 12th fret inlay was somewhat different than that on the current edition.

I thought about picking up a US made V-Type when they were introduced but they were very expensive. I wound up buying 3 NOS original Vandenbergs for less.
