• Steinberger ??

Hi there

anybody here have ever played a steinberger here ?

how are they ?

i mean i saw that :

http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=527

and thought "ooh shit" a neck thru guitar with 24 frets for about 300 bucks

i'm not thinking of it as of my main guitar ( no it's too ugly hehehe )

but kinda a replacement :

when u broke a string during a show it's kinda hard to put another string and tune it fast

also replacing bridge hum with a 81

is getting string for those really such a big problem ?

is getting 11/13 to 56/60 strings possible ( tuning C standard )

or was it just a bad idea ?

ps. is it true that u can play with the whammy here and downtune a chord not only a single note like with a floyd

Re: Steinberger ??

From what I remember they were a great, but expensive guitar back in the day. At least I couldn't afford one, but I always played them if they were at the music store

The new ones aren't as well made from what I hear, hence the lower prices. Also the reviews on them at Harmony Central haven't been great either. Another thing is that the strings have balls on both ends and it would probably be hard to find strings for it in a pinch.

You can get lower-end Jacksons and Charvels in the 300 range new if you shop for a deal, and better used guitars go on ebay for less than 300 all the time. If it were me I'd shop around more before making a decision.

Good luck,
Joe

Re: Steinberger ??

I had a Steiny Spirit and it was a decent guitar, but the all-plastic Steinberger R-Trem on the thing is a piece of crap and it's true weak point. If they put a better trem on it, it would be a great backup or travel guitar. As it is, if you lock the trem and use it as a hardtail the guitar is pretty good, but the EMG Select pickups are not for everybody (kinda weak and characterless imho). I liked the neck on mine a lot... Traded it for a nice Ibanez RG550 back when and had no regrets - the RG was a better instrument...
