  • Is BC Rich's custom shop still putting out good quality work ?

Im talking to boogie street about THIS guitar, and possibly doing a deal off ebay for it.

But I remeber hearing some people say that the modern day custom shop is lacking a bit, now that both Bernie Rico's are gone. Something about flamed tops looking just the same as if they came off an import.

Also, how do the USA Bc Rich necks compare to the Jackson necks? Anything like the speed neck on my RR1 ? (I have only had experience with the imports, and frankly I thought they all felt like.. imports.)

Their older stuff was great from the Custom Shop.

Mine has a great neck, 1 5/8" with a really nice feel to it.

Also, the older ones Wayne Charvel had a lot to do with as he worked there prior to Charvel launching.

I haven't really heard all that much good stuff about their newer CS guitars, but that is hearsay and we all know how that goes.

My custom shop was supposedly made in LA, according to Tim Keyes of the BC Rich Company.

The serial## is 89XXX, which puts its birthdate at June 14, 1986.

The quality of that guitar will rival any Jackson or other high end guitar IMO....it is pretty much a Jackson Student Soloist from the old days.

I think I heard that the new shop is in Ohio, but maybe I am wrong. I read the posts at the BC Rich site, and it is hit and miss about the feelings for quality and value.

I guess BC Rich, like Jackson/Gibson/Fender and others have a dedicated fan base.

Most of the latest guitars received from the Ohio custom shop are really nice and people are happy. That is one of the nicest Mockingbirds I have ever seen, and would be willing to risk it myself.

Re: Is BC Rich\'s custom shop still putting out good quality work ?

i had a BC Warlord which was made the year(or before can't really remember) when Mr BC Rich(RIP) pass away. The back of the headstock was signed by him before she left the custom shop plant.

The workmanship of the guitar was almost perfect. Only issue, the nut wasn't cut out right so i have to do some "shimmin" and adjusting. The playability was just insane!! One of the very best i've owned.

For more details on the new US Bich Rich, i reckon Matt(OSG) can help.

I've heard more bad than good about the new custom shop. As far as necks, all 3 of my BCR customs have different, yet similar necks. 1 5/8" wide with varying thickness. Very different than a Jackson but very playable.

If you're considering that guitar, ask every single little detailed question about it. Go to the BCR BB, look for Tim Keyes, and see if he knows anything about it.

That's a sweet Mockingbird! Though, it may be kind of bright sounding with the EMG 60 in the bridge, since it's the brightest sounding humbucker they make. It's an awesome neck pup, as I like brighter neck pups, and James Hetfield apparently does, too. I've never heard of anyone using it in the bridge.

ide play it or ask for a 2 week trial or something. honestly the newest rich ive played was 96 or so when the Bernies were back. as for the new ones I hear alot of mixed reviews.
& unless they changed necks they are usually more rounded fatter necks than any Jackson. ive seen them range from 1 3/4" to 1 5/8, most of mine are 1 11/16 and profile varies. BTW for the price of that guitar you could probably get an early 80s late70's mockingbird in natural with the works if your into all the switches & shit. even less if its painted a solid color. & if you like or dont mind kahlers you can get older USA neckthrus pretty cheap.

I have a somewhat similar question:

                          I'm considering this guitar http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...oDisplayType=2

What would you people say? I'm a little worried about its sound in the lower registers since it's Mahogany (chances of muddying up?)

Go get that ESP custom explorer you have been wanting for a long time and dont screw around with iffy quality guitars. The ESP MX250 is a set neck explorer with ebony board and black finish and is readily available in Japan. Shoot me an E-mail and I will refer you to a dealer that can get you one. You should have gotten that one explorer I told you about a while ago because the dealer in Japan had it in stock but another member on the ESP board got it a couple of days after I told you about it. If you want to see pics of what it looks like go to the ESP board to the custom section and find the thread started by ESPlayboy called meet my Japanese girlfriend. It will run you about 2250 to get it here with a case and shipping but it will be worth it and you will not be disappointed.
