Re: 8 string guitars
oh really?
in an issue of GW, i read that they used their nevborn proto-8 string. but since it didn't have a lockking nut Or proper gauge strings, it was a B!tch to use in the studio, but tehy did it anyways.
did they have custom ibanez 7's? or did they just use the universes?

Re: 8 string guitars
I know, but a lot of people including Fredrik and Marten said that that GW issue is incorrect.
They no longer use the universes, Fredrik says he never liked that guitar anyways. He only used the niverse because it was the only good 7 string he could get at the time. Ibanez now makes them customs 7 strings with single humbuckers, 27" scale length, and Lo Pro Edge trems. Pretty cool looking guitars.

Re: 8 string guitars
I also read the GW interview with the Nevborn 8-strings, saying the strings were too heavy and they wouldn't stay in tune and they'd have to keep retuning. Oh well, whatever. And I could have sworn that I'd read somewhere that Ibanez made them at least one 8-string or something, but I'm probably mistaken.
Anyway, they should go with Conklin and have some awesome 7- or 8-string guitars made!!! I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

The prototype 8 string had a regular 25.5 scale length, which is probably why they couldn't get it to stay in tune. It also had a fixed bridge and non-locking nut, which probably made it even harder to keep the damned thing in tune. But yeah, I heard that they even had trouble keeping their 7-string Nevborns in tune while recording Nothing, don't know whats up with that . You can hear the low string falling in and out of tune on that CD, based on how hard they pluck the string. Oh well, I'm just glad Nothing come out as good as it did.

Jackson's made quite a few seven strings - most of which seem to be owned by forum members. They're very nice.
Now if we could just get them to make a Soloist 7 production model...
Doesn't Rusty Cooley have a Conklin 8-string? I seem to remember him complaining about breaking the high "A" - but I was drunk at that particular festival.
