  • Really Cool or Really Stupid ??? - Kramer

MusicYo/Gibson Kramer just didn't get the Baretta right. Baretta's are supposed to be bolt-on's with a single slanted hum and one volume knob. So why not take a $199 MusicYo Kramer Striker and throw another $250 in custom mods to build a correct Baretta? Mods include:

Body stripped and tone control filled in
    Custom Mega-Metalflake Paint and Graphic
    Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon Pickup
1989 Kramer Neptune, NJ USA Neckplate
1989 Kramer Baretta Truss Rod Cover
1989 Kramer Baretta Floyd Rose String Tree/Bar
80's Volume Knob w/ allen screw

    Greg,

Pretty cool.. I am restoring an old Baretta right now myself. Using a loaded Japanese Alder Pacer body I got off ebay dirty cheap (including Dimarzio X2n & real floyd).

Waiting for the Paint to refinish the headstock to come.

BTW, where did you get the neckplate? Weren't the original Kramer neckplates very narrow? I'm surprise Gibson stuck with the same dimensions.

Hey, that was mine at one time! That was painted using "House of Colors" auto paint. That's some expensive shit! (I paint Cars all day). It was sold to me as a real Barreta back when I didn't know any better. Within a few day's I found out the real deal and sent it back! I almost kept it though cause' the paintjob was killer and it played outstanding. Also a great neck. The paint for that was definately more than the price of the guitar new. Do you live in Tulsa, OK ? I had seen this one bounce around a couple local pawn shops where they wanted way too much money for it. It eventually made it's way to eBay and I picked it up. I remembered what an excellent job someone had done and thought it was pretty cool trying to recreate an old Baretta. Whoever built this thing knew Kramers and knew what they were doing. The paint is incredible.

Actually I bought it from Chris' Guitars about 2 1/2 to 3 years ago! He wasn't sure what it was and when I found out, he took it back. I can't remember who he sold it to but he knocked the price down quite a bit. I'm in NY. I do remember thinking if you wanted to make a baretta, why would you start with a radias' body? I think I paid 375.00 and the next owner paid 275.00. Sure played great!

Chris is in Chicago right? Weird how it made it's way down here. It ended up in a pawn shop where they wanted $350 for it. I showed them the MusicYo page where it was sold new for $200 and offered them $200 for it. This was like a year ago and they wouldn't sell it for anything less than $300. It eventually made it's way to another pawn shop and then to eBay. I paid $200 for it on eBay.

I don't understand the Lynch Duncan Screamin Demon pickup. The original quad-rail sounds better. I may yank that crappy Duncan out and put a Quad-rail back in it.

Seems like an awful lot of money and effort to throw into a MusicYo Kramer, even though they are decent enough guitars.

Nah, he was very legit in his auction. He listed it as exactly what it was. Kind of funny, he was here in town and when I went and picked it up, I knew him. He had brought his kid over to my house a few years ago to buy a USA Dean ML.
