Help! I'm about to place an order with GMW...

...for a Charvel Strathead replica and need suggestions for the color. The guitar will have an alder body, maple neck with maple fingerboard, two humbucking pickups (Seymour Duncan Custom 5 in bridge position and 59 in the neck position), original floyd rose trem, one volume control, three way toggle switch, schaller strap locks. I need suggestions in regards to what color would be cool for this guitar. I don know that I want the color of the pickups to contrast the color of the guitar body. I'm also not sure if the headstock should be painted to match the body. Depending on the colors you guys suggest I'll also consider the color of the hardware. I talk to Lee today and need to make a decision during the weekend, so I can place the order on Tuesday. He already put away the body and the neck. Your sugesstions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you go on his site look under the custom shop (i think its page 4)and there is a green single hum strat that is real bad ass.I think when I order another one that is what I am going to get.And if it were me I would go with the matching headstock.I think it just looks better than the natural wood.BUt you should look around and see what really catches your eye.After all you are the one who is going to be playing it.Paul

I like a dark colored body with cream bezel and pickup with the gold vintage trem. Good contrast. There's a cool dark purple strathead on sandimascharvel.com that looks really great. Almost looks black except in the light.

If you're going for a maple neck, think about getting the birdseye, really adds something. Check out my new GMW a few posts down, with the stripes - they did an amazing job, and it plays as good as it looks.

Whats up with the birdseye necks.When I ordered my GMW Lee strongly recomended that I stay away from the birdseye.He said that they warp over time and they dont warranty them.He said that the regular maple is a better choice.That they are a stronger wood and will not have any problems such as twisting and warping.Has anyone heard of this?

Yup. Its an old argument that birdseye and flame consitiute "flaws", if you will, in the structural rigidity of the wood needed for a guitar neck.
I've heard many pro and con arguements and tend to believe highly figured necks may require a truss rod adjustment more often that a true quatersawn neck will, it's debatable as to the long term effects.
Sounds like Lee is firmly on one side of the debate.

Have you seen my latest GMW/Charvel parts guitar?
GMW made body(all quilt), DUncan CUstom 5,59,3way,Floyd(non recessed)Factory Charvel Mapler neck owned by Grover killer birds.
It doesn't show the headstock but of course it has a real Charvel logo on it.

Figured wood is considered to be diseased and not as structurally sound. Tom Anderson won't use it for necks either. I don't know if I buy into that, but it is a pretty well known theory and a lot of top builders caution against it. That said, I have an almost 20 yr old Schecter Strathead with a birdseye neck that is still killer, so who knows.

? do violins have alot of tension on the necks , some of those were killer flame & are way older than any guitar im gonna play.

ive never been a fan of graphics, painted bursts like jake or pearl color are always cool. i always loved the charvel pearls like the base blue of HRF. im still thinken about wat im doing.
