Re: Fender Katana Rhoads style must see!!

A buddy of mine has a Fender guitar book for collectors. It only lists the most collectable Fenders. The Japanese Katana is in that book and a Fender nut buddy of mine told me that it is really unique and collectable. The guy I got it from felt bad that one of the strings was broken so he almost didn't offer it to me. It also came with a mint fresh set of Dimarzio's that he bought several years ago but never installed. I will get the numbers off of them tonight.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I hear ya bro.. Maybe I should have taken the $150.00 in cash. I figure that I can easily off it on Ebay for in the mid 3's. All Japanese Fenders from the mid 80's have appeal to all the Fender nuts out there. Hey.. aren't we all now Fender nuts too?? FMIC baby
Its hard to concentrate on this guitar when I am working so hard to get my old 7-up green Charvel back.

Am I to assume that you charge 75.00 to rewire a guitar!

Both of these Les Pauls went from full passives to full active EMG's so I had to replace everything. Most of the rewiring jobs I do are speciality type stuff like phase, taps, blenders, super switches blah blah blah...I also give the guy guitar lessons and he owes me a fair amount from that along with all the other crap I wind up doing for him.

They seem very difficult to find--probably because no one who has one wants to sell it. And they do go for more on eBay--it might still be worth it to get one with the Spyder bridge and just buy a couple of Spyders on eBay for spare parts.

I owned an HM w/Spyder back in the day, and the bridge worked fine, as I recall--my only concern would be 'fixability'. That was a hell of a guitar--I recorded some nice parts with it, but traded it in on a Yamaha Weddington Custom when I got a 'Les Paul Itch' that I had to scratch.

Of course, the wife doesn't think that I actually need any other guitars at the moment, so this is all academic...

Mine has small script on the headstock too but it isn't an OFR. It does have those typical Fender HM knobs on it though with the F stamped on the top and a TBX circuit.

Re: Fender Katana Rhoads style must see!!

The Floyd models have what some people call a "Digital" logo, not the big "STRAT" and small Fender logo on the ball end. I have a pic somewhere. It took a while for them to sell those guitars. When I started working in a Fender music store in '93, the rep was cramming the leftover stock down our throats. I had seen some oddball models too, like Grafitti logo models with Kahler Floyd Rose knockoff (Steeler?) tremolos. I sold a few of them and even owned a couple.

Jim, the one that I have looks exactly like the pic you posted. It is a dark metallic charcoal with gold metalflake and a silver bevel stripe. Do you recall if yours had TBX? Mine does and it certainly looks factory.

Re: Fender Katana Rhoads style must see!!

Yes, it did have a TBX. It had the factory pickups as well, which were no name copies of a PAF style humbucker. The electronics were actually very well done compared to most guitars coming out of there at that particular time. I only had to replace the input jack on this one. The serial # on my guitar was C002683.

but he's asking 300 euro for it.. isn't that really overpriced?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Even for your neck of the woods, I would say yes as you can buy them here for 150.00USD and have one shipped to you with lesser overall cost.

My Hearfield EX has the Fender TBX, great electronics.

The serial # is C003955. Here are some pics of her. I completely rewired her, polished the frets and did a set up. The TBX circuit really works great. The wiring job is extremely neat and took a while to do because of the small control cavity. It is better than factory now. The X2N and the Super 2 really give her some serious punch. The discolorations and the marks on the body are just reflections and smudge marks from my fingers. I polished it up and it looks GREAT!! It plays great too. This is a pretty serious ax. She's got some dings and some chips on the bottom points but other than that she is in pretty fine shape. The short 24.75 scale really makes it a joy to play. Check out the pics. I wish they were better but my camera sucks. The control cavity wiring doesn't look as good in the pic as it does in person. It is flawless.

Ahh.
I have one as well.
It was my first guitar ever...and the lesson I learned was NEVER LET A BEGINNING GUITARIST BUY A V SHAPED GUITAR!!
Playing it sitting down doesn't work.
