• WTB a neck-through body blank

I was on Ed Roman's web site (calm down folks, let me finish...), and noticed that he sells neck through guitar "blanks"; for example, he had a neck-through Explorer with frets installed, but unfinished, no hardware, no electronic routes, etc. His prices seem reasonable. I know he is probably the most most untrusted guy in the music biz on this forum, and from what I have read, I would question the authenticity of any new guitar he sold.

Aside from his suspected counterfeiting (which doesn't have relevence here), and his sky-high prices on guitars (again, no relevence here), what reservations would anyone have about buying a blank from him?

And preferably, is there anyplace else I could buy a neck-through explorer blank?

I know no one here likes the guy, and I value everyones opinion, so I appreciate any input someone could give me regarding the body blank.

Thanks,

- E.

I agree he has some nice looking stuff. Seems like a fairly safe buy. I have no problem dropping 600.00 to 700.00 on a neck-through blank if I can get exactly what I want. I jsut have never dealt with the guy, and he has such a terrible repuation...

I sent an email to www.abstractguitars.com and asked them if they would do it for me. They are mentioned on Ed Roman's site, but I do not know if they are owned by ER or what.

Has anyone heard of or dealt with Abstract guitars?

I will check out Rampart. Their web site blows big time, but that doesn't mean their guitars aren't nice. Maybe I could redesign their site in exchange for a new axe.

I haven't spoken to Lee yet.

if u do buy from ed, ask every question you can think of about the specs & get everything in writing, before you pay. when he was in CT as east coast MM he did make some really nice stuff. that being said i wouldnt buy a set of strings from him

abstract guitars may be sold thru ed, but they're not made by him. actually, i don't think that ed's a builder in the first place. i always thought that he has others do the work thru him.

Re: WTB a neck-through body blank

Carvin sells neck-through blanks for just a couple of hundred bucks, and you can order it with an uncut headstock, so you can shape the headstock any way you want.

With Ed Roman I've read here that he's
charged people's creditcards w/o permission, sent out incorrect items and not wanted to exchange them, and tried to hire at least one member here (WarriorX7) to work in his counterfeit guitar shop.
He took Ken (WX7) on a tour of his secret back room shop that was behind his front
shop. Just sounds shady all around,
from what I've heard. It would just suck
to be forewarned and still get screwed.

Stewmac also has neck-through blanks, and again you can get the unshaped "paddle" headstock so you can cut any shape you want.
Ron is the MAN!!!!

the back shop wasnt a secret, just wasnt something he showed off because of the replicas / fakes being made in there. ive seen it, back when it was East coast MM they did do really good work there & Ed did have some really great builders making & redoing guitars. Hell they were good enough that alot of people own PRS, BCRich & esp guitars that werent made at the factory. those are the ones I saw so i wont comment on any of the other stuff he makes.
