Anyone know anything about this French guitar maker called Lag? All I know is Phil Campbell from Motorhead uses a couple of them. Someone possibly wants to trade me a Lag Roxanne Classic for my 12-string Carvin if I don't sell it on ebay.

Re: Lag guitars?
Cool, thanks! I probably should have done a search, as I never really paid attention to the name and probably didn't read the thread if it came up here. How can you tell which are made in France and which in Korea? I guess the one the guy's got is similar to this.

Re: Lag guitars?
It used to be that Hotline guitars were made in Korea, but I dont know about the current models. I thought some of the Roxannes were Korean, but I'm just not sure. Regardless, Lags sell for about the same price used as a Korean guitar. New they are expensive, but used, they may as well as say Samick...........

Re: Lag guitars?
There's a Lag Rockline at the Seven Corners, VA Guitar Center for $200 that they can't sell 'cause it's this funky pseudo-snakeskin. Too bad, 'cuase it's a nice guitar.
Their resale value is, apparently, awful.

Re: Lag guitars?
Hmm, the guy just sent me a pic. Says it's French made, and it's got a couple of Duncans in it with a push/pull to split them. I found the Lag website, and it says they have their own pups with two push/pulls for them, but I think this guy modified it with only one for both pups in the tone pot. http://onlinerock.com/services/toejam//lag1.jpg http://onlinerock.com/services/toejam//lag2.jpgI feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Re: Lag guitars?
I've played the French ones (there is a dealer near me in Branford CT).. they are solidly made, with pretty good attention to detail from what I saw/heard.
Mike - what kind of shape is that snakeskin one in? Is that the store that Chris Roy works at?

It's the pink/red psuedo-snakeskin color, and it looked like it was in pretty good shape. I played it several weeks ago, and it could use a set up, but it was pretty nice. It has the licensed Floyd, but I think it is actually one of the French ones, and not Korean. (I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think so.)
It is NOT the GC Chris works at - he's in Fredricksburg. (I need to get down there sometime, actually. I might be able to slip by there on Saturday and check it out for you. It's been there for a while, if you're really interested, and I know the manager at that one, too. (Although not as well as I know Chris.)
Coming to Chicago? It will be all the rage.

Re: Lag guitars?
Be careful which model you are getting. Some of their 40's models have a tendancy to cave in at the slightest amount of pressure. Keep in mind that if you ever get into a jam with your Lag guitar it might not step up and bail you out. The early Revolutionary War models were kick ass but the later models are rather wishy washy. Just ask SH or OB..

Check it out and let me know what ya think.. I have PLENTY of room on the GC card if they'll do that transaction out of state!
I'm going back and forth on Chicago... my travel budget may be limited this year (since my damn gear budget wasn't ), as I MAY be selling my condo...
I have the Progpower show (know the dates already), and I am debating on either Chicago or BW&BK.... plus I have my SCUBA trip in April... I had to pass on a Mardi Gras trip - could afford the trip, but was worried about the bar tab!

Re: Lag guitars?
Mike and Wayniac, I used to own that LAG Rockline--bought it used at the Seven Corners store last fall and then returned it a couple of weeks later. Overall, it plays pretty nice, but it needs some fretwork. The lower frets have very annoying sharp ends on the high-E side, and the guitar frets out on the high-E string at the 12th fret (a very bad place to fret out!!). Since the guitar has little wear, the fretting-out problem must be a factory defect.
Also, the guitar appears to have a LAG-logoed Schaller trem, which looks brand new but doesn't return to zero-pitch very accurately, much like what you see on an older trem guitar.
If the guitar didn't have these problems, I'd probably still own it, because it does play and sound nice, otherwise. It's sitting there at $199, so if you want to put some $$ and work into it, it would be a nice player--and I'll bet you could talk GC down on it, since they've had it awhile.

Thanks for the heads up - much appreciated!
I KNOW what those guitars are capable of... but dunno how much of a "rescue" I want to perform on a guitar. The ones I played were SOLID and well dressed... reminded me of an older Hamer or top-end Yamaha as far as work quality and feel of the neck.
Anyway... who knows... guess I'll have to think about this one...
Thanks again for the info
