Re: Lag guitars?

They recently changed the catalog. It's now easier to know if it's french made or Korean. All the French one are in the "Bedarieux" serie. They have nice new models, but some of them look like Jackson rip offs.

They will release very soon 2 Stephan Forte seven string signature guitars that will kick ass (fortunately Ibanez's ass).

Thanks for the heads up - much appreciated!
I KNOW what those guitars are capable of... but dunno how much of a "rescue" I want to perform on a guitar. The ones I played were SOLID and well dressed... reminded me of an older Hamer or top-end Yamaha as far as work quality and feel of the neck.
Anyway... who knows... guess I'll have to think about this one...
Thanks again for the info
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No prob! I've thought about picking it up again and having the work done on it, but I've got my Soloist and I'm pretty content right now. I don't know what the deal with the trem is, because it really looks brand new, including the springs, which are very stiff. Even with four springs, the guitar doesn't return back to zero-pitch very well.

Another interesting thing about it: it comes with a Duncan TB-11 Custom Custom in the bridge position, which I found to be a bit dark-sounding in a mahogany-bodied guitar. I swapped it for a Distortion briefly, and that made a lot of difference. Probably a JB would be ideal for a less-driven sound.

As far as the frets goes, I was really surprised at the problems it had, because the fretwork, for the most part, was excellent--feeling a lot like a Hamer, as you say--but those niggling problems were enough to turn me off from the guitar, despite the cheapo price.

I'm sure the weird paintjob and the "made in France" thing are what have kept it in the store, when much crappier guitars fly off the GC shelves. I actually thought the purple lizardskin finish was cool, but then, I'm weird.

I'd love the 7 string - I saw the specs on it - looks great, and Adagios guitar sound is pretty good.
Who knows, maybe I'll get to try one out first hand some day .. but shhhh don't tell anyone

Where did you get yours? Are there any dealers in your area?
I dunno if the dealer near me is going to continue to carry them

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You can tell me!

I tried Stephan's guitar during a festival in Paris where he was playing his old instrumental demos. Before he played, he let people try his guitar (this guy is really cool!) and it's awesome. Especially when it deals with seven string guitars where the most common reference is an ibanez. The action was set so low with no buzz. The major difficulty is that it's a 27 frets neck with no dot markers, so it's easy to lose yourself on this highway.

I know that they should release two models, certainly one cheapest model, and that they will put a DM blaze in the bridge instead of the evolution 7.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I bought it used at the same GC where it sits now--I returned it to GC a couple of weeks after buying it.

There was only one dealer in the Washington DC metro area that carried LAGs--a small shop out in Centreville, VA called "Classic Axe". That guy carries a number of more obscure lines--he was carrying Schecter before anyone else, and long before GC did. but I think he has dropped the LAG line, since it didn't sell well. He may have a couple left in stock. I haven't been out there in awhile, since he's about 20 miles from where I live (and doesn't have as many affordable used axes as he used to), but I seem to recall that he still had a very beautiful Roxanne Custom in stock last time I was there. You might give him a call--real nice guy. His number is (703)330-7966.

Pro -

I was at Classic Axe about a month ago, and he had a few Lags left, if I remember correctly.

He's a nice guy, and keeps his eye out for "those damn pointy things" for me.

Wayniac -

OK, if I can get by there, I'll check it out, but I think it's covered. As for Powerfest, Joe's doing one in Albany at the end of April, so that's a cheaper option for you - it'll have IV, them and us, and I don't know who else.

With a little TLC - it needed a setup bad, from what I remember - I bet that's a nice guitar.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think I must have paid $250 for it, but still a good deal. It had a horrible setup--it had very thick strings on it that had pulled the trem forward so far that it was impossible to play. A 30-minute setup after I got home with it reduced the action down to the lowest I've ever gotten on any guitar, including any of my USA Jacksons.

I don't have it anymore--it played nice but didn't have good tone, for some reason. I tried numerous different pickups in it, but it was just a very acoustically dead instrument. I guess the guys at the Japanese plant must have picked out a particularly bad batch of wood that day in 1989. And I've owned enough Charvel neckthroughs to know that this particular one was just a bad apple.

BTW, it's funny how small this J/C world is, huh? All these instruments seem to go around in a circle among us. I'm pretty sure the eBay buyer for the 650xl was a member here at one time, if not still. Could be mistaken about that, though, it's been well over a year since I sold it.

Albany is a better option for me.. and truthfully, I would just go to support you 3 anyway (IV, you, and Enertia) though I'd love to catch 12th Gate

I did speak to the guy in the VA store a while back (2 yrs or so?) to see about the 7 string Beast... but he didn't carry it, and I didn't wanna spend the $$ to order a guitar I had never played

Nah, I'm not in that exalted circle - seems no one wants to tell me after I guessed most of them for PP III - Glenn's convinced someone told me. I know Deron knows, but he ain't talking.

How many did 5150 hit on PM? PoS has to be one of them...

Oh, and where can I get info on the 7 string you're talking about - you know me, always looking for line on a 7.

Pro -

Yeah, it's a small world - I ended up here because of a '87 Dinky I bought on eBay (from WarriorX7, if I remember correctly) and the guy that bought it from me used to be around here.

We're a small community, period - and I knew Wayniac long before we both came here, but we arrived indpendently. Same with Dreamland Rebel.

Weird, but cool - I know far more about Jacksons and other guitars now, thanks to this place.

Zach Blair..guitarist from Hagfish, and formerly GWAR...

Had a Lag "beast" model.

I was going to trade him some stuff, but the trade flopped, on my end. Nice guy about it tho.

It was a really nice guitar, and Zach found it to be of really high qaulity.
