I finally picked up a Wolfgang. Rockin' guitar! Great neck, overall I'm super impressed, but for some reason these pickups sound terrible to me. Anyone share that opinion?

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
I don't think too many people will share your opinion regarding the pickups. I think they are just about as good as a humbucker can possibly be. The Dimarzio EVH's are even better but the Wolfgangs are fantastic too. Isn't the neck outstanding on your Wolf!

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
I had two Wolfgang USA specials and also thought the pickups didn't sound good. I think Hammer is right: you have to eq different to get the sound you want out of them. I use specific pre-sets, and I take a lot of different guitars to gigs; and they all sound good thru those presets: except for the Wolfgangs. I didn't feel like making special patches just for the Wolfie, so I sold them.

I have a Red Standard archtop, trem, and it is one of three I would never sell.
Awesome neck, and I do dig the pickups. Extremely "scooped" I would call them.

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
My home amp is a Peavey Transtube 212 EFX, an amp that to my ears sounds good with all my HB pickup guitars without changing settings. The Wolfgang pickups sounded strange with my "normal" amp settings. I'm so used to plugging in and having it sound good straight away. I definately spoke too soon. I turned the gain way down, adjusted the EQ and they are sounding nicer by the minute...guess those knobs thingies on my amp really do work

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
I posed the what pickups are these really question to a Peavey rep and he told me off the record the wolfie USA pickups are essentially a tone zone and an air norton onl peavey makes them. The EVH pickups are in fact made by DiMarzio.
And that came from a Peavey rep!! Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
You guys do know that the switch is backwards and works in the opposite way than normally, right? Someone on here said he thought his bridge pickup was really dark and muddy and the neck pickup was brighter... he didn't realize the switch was different. Damn EVH musta been drinking when he thought of that idea. I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
I like the neck so much thatt I have replaced the neck on a Richie Sambora USA strat and A USA standard strat with Warmoth necks with the Wolfgang back shape. They are awesome. Warmoth does an excellent job of reproducing the Wolfgang backshape. I have JG's old Wolfgang special with the Dimarzio/MMEB pickups. They sound great IMO...

Re: Just got a Wolfgang...
Hey Chris, out of all of the guitars I have ever owned I gotta say that that goldtop special with the Dimarzio original EBMM EVH's in it was just about the best playing and sounding guitar I have ever owned. It is one very special axe for sure. Have you ever played a Washburn N4? I just got a 94 in a multiswirl finish. The neck reminds me alot of the Wolf. It is a killer guitar.
