PRS?

more work hours and less social life has left me with alot more money than i've ever had and i need to do something with it. right now i have about 1g worth of money. While i'm saving some of it for college and stuff, i think its time i bought a guitar for myself as a kind of reward.

I'd like to have a neckthrough rhoads, probably japanese made, and it'd have to be new because there's no market for used jacksons around here. if i went this route i'd have to save up a little while longer then buy it later.

The other route(and dilemma) is that my dad has found a PRS guitar for sale at work. As far as he knows, this is an American PRS, with bird inlays and all that good stuff. The asking price is about 800.

So do you guys have any opinions on PRS guitars? I know all of these crappy "new rock" bands use them, and that sorta bugs me but regardless of pop trends how are these guitars?

It's all personal preference my friend.
The best thing you can do is get your hands on that PRS and play it then play it some more.
Some people feel the Pre-1995 PRS stuff is better then the newer stuff(this is the early hand made stuff before CNC machines took over)
BUT, If you have a grand and want a Rhoads then you can easily land a used USA Rhoads in the $650-$850 range and have some spare change for a couple pedals or something.
As a matter of fact, I know where there is a 1992 Rhoads with custom lightning in the sky graphic for $699..
Stick to your guns and get what you want.. never settle when it comes to something as personal as a guitar.
If I were you, I might consider buying the PRS and flippin it on the Ebay to get the rest of the money you think you need to bye a rhoads..

If the PRS is a Custom 22 or a Custom 24 it's going to be a killer guitar. I've owned pre-CNC and post-CNC PRS axes and for my money the post-CNC guitars just play better on the whole. Very very killer axes and if you can get it for $800 or so, jump on it. If you don't want it and if it's a Custom 22 or 24, I'll pay you a finder's fee and buy it from you.

That said, the USA RR is a very unique instrument as well. Totally different feel and vibe and well worth having in the stable in its own right (even if you're not an RR fan).

PRS's have been C-N-C for longer than 95. 95 was the first year of full bore C-N-C. Where as prior to that they were computer cut and routed then hand sanded and cleaned up. In the 80s was the hand made stuff like Santana's original guitar. Those go for a chunk of change now. The others 89ish on up dont have the same value.
The 94's and earlier just have the mojo. We got a Cst 24 at work and its amaizing in tone and playability. Beat up but great axe.
If the PRS your dad mentioned is only 800 bucks whats wrong with it? A Std 24 or 22 (solid colors); would be around 800-1000, and the Cst 22 and 24s would be 1000-18000 depending on options and color. (ie birds, brazilian, gold edging, 10 top. etc..

from what i gather, nothing is wrong with it. The guy who has the guitar doesn't play, he just happened upon it because he lent some guy cash and he paid him back with this. Since he's a friend of dad's, he doesn't seem to want to make a profit just come out even. Still haven't laid my hands on it yet to make my decision but i'll let you guys know. thanks again

$800 for a PRS is a Steal. I own three myself. They have great resale value, so if you don't like it just sell and make some money. Sounds like its a custom 22 of 24, because very few CE models came with bird inlays, so you should be able to pull between 1,200 - 1,700 on ebay. This of course depends on the condition and options that the guitar has.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have to disagree here, the market is very soft right now and I don't think you'll se a CE go anywhere near $1700. Shit, CU22's and CU24's are going for under $1500. I bough a 2002 whale blue CU22 with birds and a killer non 10 top for $1300.

you can get a brand new ce 22 from guitar center with case for less than $1700.

Not sure if you guys READ my first post. I never stated that the guitar was a CE. I know what CE's bring in, I own two of them. Custom 22 or 24's rarely ever bring in under $1,200.

Again I am assuming that we are talking about a Custom model based on the guitars description. Not sure if you guys follow PRS guitars but CE Models with Bird inlays are somewhat rare. I would bet that even if this guitar was a CE w/birds it would still fetch $1,200 to $1,300. If you want to see for yourself, go and check ebay, look for any PRS CE with birds. I have only seen four in the past two years. The last one I saw went for $1,300.

i did research and its either some goofy model or a custom 24, but i'm pretty sure its a custom 24.

I've decided i think i'll pass on it. its a nice guitar and everything, but i'm pretty new at the "buying and selling" stuff so i don't wanna buy it to sell it. And for all those hours of making pizzas at pizza hut, i wanna know that what i bought is exactly what i want. on that note...where can i find those USA jacksons for $800? i can't seem to find that anywhere!

ok another update......in a true "what was i thinking" fashion i changed my mind on the guitar and made the guy an offer of 1000. although i don't have pictures and can't get any on the computer anytime soon, here's a pic of a guitar that looks almost identical, just different wear and grain.
