Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

The only ones that are HIGHLY paid are Vai, Satriani, and the dudes from Korn. Each of them are getting, what I've heard anyway, $250,000+ a year. I SEVERELY doubt that the all the Lynch models COMBINED earn him anywhere near that much in the royalties they pay.

Signature models are almost always exactly what the players play. Why wouldn't they be? The only modifications I've ever seen on artist guitars that we sent out were on Pat Lachman's Soloists, and that was a simple pickup swap for EMG's. What's the point of having a signature model that's completely different from what the dudes play themselves? Even if they use customs, the signatures are going to be based on those customs.

metalcop: Did you lose respect for EVH when he put Kramer logos on all of his mutts? Or when James Hetfield put that awesome 'Kill Bon Jovi' logo over his Jackson's headstock? ALL endorsements work the same way. You are seen with the guitars you endorse and no others. You can play them in the studio, you can play them at home, you just can't play them onstage or in public. It is like that with EVERY endorsement deal from every manufacturer. That is a standard clause. Lynch and EVH's logos were a way for them to keep playing guitars they liked, but retain their endorsement deals.

I've played a few LTD's. I can't see what the big deal is, like 'em or loathe 'em. They're just mid-range guitars. No better or worse than anything else in the price range.

BM is correct. Most of these guys DO NOT make huge dollars off of their endorsements. Hell, I don't think Lynch ever made big money, which is one reason he is a gear whore...to try and pay his bills. Do you really think he plays a shit hole bar on a Monday night at midnight in NYC is ANYONE was paying him huge dollars these days? Or do you think he needs the money to pay his bills?

BigDaddyD here makes a point in passing. The gearwhore aspect.

I want a show of hands.

Who here would really, truly, honestly, TURN DOWN FREE FUCKING GUITARS?

Who here wants to publicly out themselves as a TOTAL DUMBASS?

And don't give me any "Well, I have principles and I'm not a whore to the almighty dollar blah blah blah." You're all gearwhores, same as I am. I will HAPPILY bend over and take the free guitars from anyone that wants to give them to me. Shit, I'll play a fuckin' SILVERTONE if they're free. But not those Paul Stanley things.

Another point that has to be made is that most endorsers DO NOT GET FREE GEAR. Most endorsers are given guitars either dealer cost (for the lowest level endorsers) or manufacturer's cost.

As for selling the guitars for profit, not if you're a working musician. If you are set up as a business and you make money playing music, you will take it in the ass from the taxman every time you sell gear. Say hi to your new neighbor Mr. Capital Gains Tax! Buying gear is great, because you get to write it off. Selling gear gets you lubed up and ready for insertion. It would be impossible for any endorsers short of Vai to turn a profit selling their free shit.

Well I don't understand how Kirk and James can be endorsed by ESP (both with sig series guitars) but play thier Gibsons and Jacksons? Not that I have a problem with what brand they choose to play but I'd think ESP or any other guitar company would be a little more strict on this policy.

Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

Kirk and James are in Metallica. ESP would be stupid to drop them as endorsees considering how many ESP's are sold just from Metallicas influence. I'm sure they have a little more say than the average endorsee.

Depending on who it was, Jackson did pay thier endorse's.

ESP guitars can't be as bad as some people say. after all, they made the body and neck for my '86 baretta and it's an awesome guitar. wouldn't trade it for anything.

the reason GL signed with ESP instead of Kramer seems to have been that ESP treated him better. Besides, ESP made the Kramers anyway.

LTD seems like nice guitars now. Maybe not top-end competitors, but definitely high-mid-end ones.
I guitar, therefore, I am a Guitarer

The top end ESPs are nice, the LTDs are well that`s iffy I guess. I didn`t care for them, but if you are young and you haven`t played a USA Jackson or USA Hamer or even a Japanese made ESP they are a good guitar. I know as a young Teen, I would have rather had an ESP LTD than the $100 Harmony I started out with, ick Jack.

Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

Jackson endorsees who had their own signature models were given a percentage off the top on each model sold. Mustaine was making money playing Jackson.

I don't blame Jackson one bit for cutting off Mustaine's free supply of guitars after watching him sell loads of them on eBay for ridiculous prices.

How many times do I have to say this. THEY DIDN'T CUT HIM OFF. When FMIC bought Jackson ALL OF THE ENDORSERS, every one of them including Mustaine, Phil Collen, Scott Ian and so on, were busted down to one guitar a year. This is FMIC's standard practice. It has nothing to do with Mustaine personally.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, it might have been different for Kramer if they didn't drop the ball in the '80s on Lynch. George was supposed to meet with a Kramer rep at the airport to talk about an endorsement deal... the guy showed up late, George couldn't or didn't feel like waiting around, so he left and wound up hooking up with ESP. If that deal had happened, who knows, Kramer might have stayed in business for awhile longer.

I doubt it...they had Eddie Van Halen, Richie Sambora, every other big name at the time and still went bust...I don't think George would've made a huge difference. But who am I!
