Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

Kramer simply had to many things going on at once and their cash outflows were huge. They had multiple guitar lines at different price points and had to pay their endorses. On top of that I believe they were even financing tours and other such crap. The company was not run well from a business standpoint. I remember in college, I knew this guy who supposedly knew one of the owners sons and told me that Kramer was going under and he could have gotten me whatever and as many as I wanted for like $300. Too bad I had no money.

Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

randyvan: the "American" series were simply ESPs assembled in the US. But looking at vintagekramer.com it seems that ESP and Kramer worked together before the "American" series (with ESP making necks). I don't know. they were good guitars though, and Kramer never said they were "made in the USA", they just didn't tell anyone they weren't
The company was poorly managed though. Even if EVH hadn't left them they would have gone under. It's a shame, but in a way it's also a good thing because Kramers got a bad rep and up until now used Kramers were available for a really low price... I'm guessing people are starting to catch on and the price is going slowly up...
      I guitar, therefore, I am a Guitarer

I would kill to get a U.S.A jackson a year!

The difference is that neither of you have several platinum albums to your credit, nor have you inspired millions of kids to take up the electric guitar. Dave Mustaine HAS those credentials, so he can expect more than you from the company whose guitars he plays. I say IF
you are ever in his shoes, ask yourself this question again and decide whether a company that you've sold many guitars for should cut you down to 1/11 of what you had before. Les Paul still gets a Les Paul from Gibson every month; when was his last album put out? Of course, Les really DID invent and design HIS guitar, but still...

They did make a few with bolt-on necks, the first ones that came out had them, but the JJ2 is the only one still in production.

That may be true, too. I remember reading EVH also was a little upset about the ESP thing and Kramers not being made in the USA.

hmmm...i gotta agree with black mariah in this case...we all love our c/j's but if esp (carvin, hamer, insert company name here) waved a big check in your face to play their instruments?...that'd be hard to turn down...d.m.

Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

I may be in the minority about this, but I don't think it was greedy of Dave Mustaine to resent being cut down from 11 Jackson's a year to just 1. I mean, it's Dave Mustaine! Jackson SHOULD take care of their biggest name endorser. Who is left in the Jackson artists roster now? No discredit to most of them, but they don't have the name recognition of Dave. I think this is going to hurt Jackson more than anything in the long run. On a related note, losing Alexi Laiho, probably the most promising talent in metal right now, was a huge mistake. If Fender wanted a stake in the 'Metal Guitar' market they are not going about it the right way.

They've got Scott Ian, Phil Collen, Matt Crooks, Mitch Watkins...mostly guys who are in active bands, not sitting at their houses selling their old guitars on eBay. I don't blame them one bit for only giving him one guitar-not only did it happen to everyone, but I know that if I quit going to work then they'd most likely quit paying me...I think that holds true for just about everybody, including Dave Mustaine.

Re: why do they go JACKSON USA to ESP?

Endorsements are for name recognition, not whether you're gigging or recording right now. Anthrax and Def Leppard's stars have been fading for much longer than Megadeth's, and all respect to Matt and Mitch, but they are still virtual unknowns compared to Dave Mustaine. He is still a more valuable endorsee than those guys, again no disrespect to them.
