• The Les Paul Thread

The title says it all. Seems like a lot of people here have one, or desperately want one. Please post pics of your Les Pauls here and lets hear those stories! Customs, Standards, Studios, Goldtops, hell even Juniors are welcome here! I'll start with the pic of my new #1. This black beauty has inspired me to relearn my entire Led Zeppelin collection, and to dust off 'Crying in the Rain'. All this guitar needs, badly, is two new volume pots. I get bleed off, so badly, that I can't even properly do the Randy Rhoads machine gun/3-way technique!

Lovin' this guitar! And thinking about unloading a couple of C/J's to buy another one! Kidding(?)

Here's my 1992 Standard - picked it up in '94 for $1025 used (consignment) - good thing for me everyone and their mother was still going after the Grunge guitars (Rustangs, Baguars, Smellecasters, etc) and Ibenhads

Being a huge Zeppelin fan, this was my Dream Date for years - my first guitar was a Tobacco Burst LP bolt-on copy made by Montoya (still got it ). While this one isn't exactly Page's '59 Cherryburst, it's still a great guitar.
Funny thing when I bought it:
I was in the store looking at the Ibenhads and such, as well as the new Gibsons, when these two old guys were sitting at the counter pissing and moaning about this Les Paul, which was over in the corner on the consignment rack. They were saying "Man, that Les Paul sure is purty, but it's a shame about that gold hardware" (which at the time was mint). "Yup", says the other guy "it'll turn on ya". So I mosey on over, ask how much, and the guy says "Uhh lemme check" (check check check) "Yeah, the guy wants $1000 for it".
So after I got my chin off the floor I ask if the guy will take it on a layaway. He checks his notes again and says yes, so I paid down on it and got it out about 3 months later (working some crap-pay job making less than $300 a week).

That was a great day for me - I could hardly wait to get home (which was about 1 hour 45 minutes away). Glad I had a Daytona TurboZ at the time - made the trip a lot shorter

Now I've got my second Dream Axe - a Les Paul Custom in white:

It's modded a bit, but I am Dr Newcenstein

Although my Gibson LPC is not exactly factory it is all Gibson (aside from the concentric pots)
The middle pup was routed into it so I got it for stupid cheap 500.00. It was originally a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the middle. I wanted to make it more original so I picked up a used 590T and put that in the bridge moved the bridge PAF to the middle and left the neck alone. Its in excellent condition for being a gigged 25 year old guitar. Only one wear spot on the neck at the bass side by the 5th fret and some minor play marks on the body. Original hardware too. After selling off two other Les Paul Cstms in the past (both were black with gold one was a 82 and the other was a 80) this is the one I'm gonna take to the grave with me (of course if somebody offers me a rediculous price for it I may have to let it go). I know I could get at least a grand for it in the condition it's in all mods aside. It has great tone and a great neck although it is a bit chunkier than my 750XL which is the same color but with black hardware.
The Epi LPC I found at a local shop I had been going too off and on when I was a kid and stop in every now and then. My search started when I saw a used white with gold at MGR in Arlington heights (b4 i worked there) but it was already sold. I had to have one and my search brought to Perry's Music where I found it. It's mohagony with a maple top ( i know this cuz somebody decided to stab it in the back literally with what looked a screwdriver tip and it exposed some of the wood) I put a Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge and a Zebra coil PAF in the neck. Perfect balance and awesome tone. I put some gold Gibson tuners and Gibson 500k pots on it and it is one of the best Epi's I've ever played. The neck is a bit thinner than my 76 but not the tone. It's got a good weight to it too.For 350 it was well worth the investment.

Just had the worst case of G.A.S. in a long time: Found a LP Special Faded Worn EB for $800. Want it so bad, but can't afford.

Btw, does anyone know if the Specials/Faded are archtops or flattops? I couldn't tell from the pics...

Pretty sure the faded Special is a flat-top. I just got one of the Melody Maker reissues. For $399 brand new at MF, it has to be the cheapest real Gibson on the market. One dog-eared P-100 and a flat top. Great for punk. I'll post pics of my Pauls tomorrow.

Re: The Les Paul Thread

i recently got a de armond lp copy in great shape i would say the body was a 9.5 out of 10. problem with it was no electronics just body and hardware. so what did i do? cusomize fever hit me.
i work in a boat factory (sea-ray) 4 days a week so i decided to refinish the thing with a gel coat.(the finish on boats) did a rebel flag graphic on it,after sanding and buffing the finish looks about deep enough to stick ya whole arm thru and still not reach the colors....this thing looks awesome! so now this thread got me to thinking about electronics for it.
heres the question: all you LP fanatics and guitar wireing junkies help me come up with a radical hot/cool sounding wireing/pup config. i am totally open to ideas.
if i hi-jack your thread i am sorry, admins feel free to relocate this post as needs be,just figured as this was a les paul thread i might get more ideas from all the LP junkies/fans and it would kinda fit here.

Les Paul Studio. Alpine white with ebony board and gold hardware. Got this from my wife as a present about 13- 14 years ago. I love it and it just plays amazingly. Great thread!!
